Was taking about this the other day.
I tend to sit at 129 most of the time with breaks - although I think the majority would be a fair bit faster?
I don't ever try to do this - but whenever I glance at the Pioneer BPM readout it is 129.
Dunno what I mix DnB at - I think it would vary more.

Personally I like to play DnB at around -2...But, people on the dance floor usually like it a bit faster!

For sure. But if I'm Djing by myself I seem to prefer to mix at 129.
It's wierd.

i like it around 175-180. i read a matrix (i think?) interview somewhere about how he writes his tunes slightly downtempo deliberately, because having them at +5 on a turntable acts as a form of compression.

135 - 141.
Never go any higher. Hard breaks is made to be played at that speed, and when the pitch fader is on 0, it reads at 130 - 135 bpm on most of my records anyway.
You get over 141 and it just gets silly. Massive gap between 141 and 142.

low 130's wherever possible. Skanks it up nicely and fattens basslines right up for tops shakin' value.

Nah, they are so shit. I've never met anyone that actualy uses them to beatmatch.
I think most dj's might look at them every few tunes or so, just to make sure they are staying within bpm range for the intended audience.
That's what I tend to do anyway, but like most, I can get a pretty good estimate of bpm's in my head.
They are a waste of time IMO.

that's really interesting. lately i've been writing shit with longer beats and keys and having everything sit at a really low bpm, burn a copy and fuck with it later through the cdjs. interesting stuff
the bpm counters are jokes too, i agree
and lately i've been pitching most things around +2 to +4 and no higher

i usually write at 178 or 180 with the intention of playing at about +2
so it ends up around 182 or so. that's the ex-hardcore DJ and current metalhead coming out

Why don't they work for DnB?
I don't use them but the thing gets all up in your face and you can't help noticing it.
If the bpm counter isn't ballpark then the effects won't work right either - or so I thought???

For dnb they are usually so confused and swap between 20, 160, 90, ????
crap things.
When i start i dj at the speed of the first record and go from there. unless i'm trying to mix some new shit into a mid 90's GLR/cert 18 tune or something. anything above 177 is getting too fast. Slower the better. think Fanu. he makes stuff at a good speed
it's the most beautiful ugly sound in the world

The beat counters on 300's / 600's have 3 settings with 2 different BPM ranges for beat counting. I set mine on the second setting (two red lights on) and it picks up D&B beautifully.

Thats what I was getting at. You need to set it so the BPM counter is sweet - otherwise when you set the echo for 1/4 and the BPM is out then you won't be able to echo drums properly.

130 - 140 - most stuff around 134 - 135.
approx. 136 - 140 is usually what i'll mix bassline breaks too, gives it that extra oomph.
yeah, any faster and breaks sounds funny.
