Okay, I'm safely home. Wait for it....
HOLY CRAP!! WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?
I honestly don't know how to describe what I saw tonight. I can certainly say I've never heard music like it or seen DJs like Krush. That has got to be one of the best gigs I have ever seen. It's gonna take a hell of a lot to impress me now.

Put my thoughts on paper last night, very over the top and flowery, but thought I'd share it with you....
In the words of Red from Shawshank Redemption, hope is a dangerous thing. I had spent a jittery first week back at work hoping to end it with an aural enema courtesy of the floating soundscapes and technical wizadry of DJ Krush at Prince of Wales.
Anticipation peaked as I waited for my crew to arrive, the kind of anticipation you feel when on the verge of being a part of something that will be talked about in hushed tones of reverance amongst the chosen few.
Getting to the Prince in time to catch the end of Music vs Physics and the practised precision of DJ Ransom, the Prince bandroom filled to capacity as eager punters swarmed the floor in wide-eyed readiness for the musical mayhem that was soon to be unleashed.
I eased my way through the crowd as Krush made his way to the decks to the rabid applause from his hungry acolytes. Krush eased into his sonic sermon with some trademark jittery drum patterns and textured rhythms, and by the time the first refrains of "Building Steam With A Grain Of Salt" by DJ Shadow oozed through the speakers, the tension and energy in the air was truly palpable.
Krush continued to build his masterpiece as the bassline slithered into darker and nastier configurations, whilst simultaneously the melodies and refrains rose to complex and subtle heights. It was the aural equivalent of going twelve rounds with Mike Tyson, only to find Angelina Jolie in your corner at the end of each round with a knowing smile and soothing words to ease your pain.
Krush worked his rig with the sheer precision and confident assurance of a micro surgeon, yet still managing to maintain that subtle air of experimentation and spontaneity that inspired moments of awe and inspiration.
It was all but impossible not to be drawn toward the front of the stage, as my fellow punters and I were inexorably tugged by the electronic voodoo concocted by Krush. As the set drew to a close, Krush upped the ante with some amazingly dexterous scratching and beat juggling as he utilised both his sampler and effects to draw to a triumphant close his bone jarringly beautiful hip hopera.
The night finished in a haze of goodbyes as hundreds of smiling faces were seen descending the stairs of the Prince, comments of awe and amazement echoing off the walls.

Krush truly is a masterful DJ.
Not only that, but a wonderful musician and experimentalist.
I was super tired and had a throbbing headache (which I've still got now...), but I was still able to appreciate the skills of this brilliant aural sculptor.
Second time I've seen the man, and was not disappointed, although some of the wonder and awe had dissipated and been replaced with expectation. This is to be expected though.
All in all, I would be more than happy to see the man again next time he's in town

Little did I know, and even less did I care.
Takes me bout 15 mins to get ready but I live in Belgrave, end of the trainline, and ~1 hour to the city by train, then a tram to St Kilda coz I'm too responsible to drink and drivestovequeen wrote:how long does it take??B0mBjAcK wrote:omg only a few hours, crap i gotta go get ready!

Theres about a 40min set from this guy who did the same thing with an MD or Dictaphone at a KRS ONE gig in the US somewhere, its not great quality but u sure can hear everything and the beats, just sounds a bit tinny. I think its also on the first track of KRS's I GOT NEXT album...Krs tells everyone at the start if they have a tape recorder to turn it on...boh!
Yep thats it, BUT...I actually found the WHOLE concert not just that lil snippet that he uses on I got next, but think i lost it again when i reformatted...will hunt it down tho.Schizo! wrote:"Everybody in here, right now, with tape decks turn em on, and put em on record. I'll give you a second."
KRS One is my all time favourite Hip Hop artist
