Obliveus gets funky at Weedhopper this Sat 3 Dec
Ladies and Gentleman Weedhopper would formally like to welcome the one and only funkmaster Obliveus to the turntables this Sat Dec 3 for Weedhopper's 2nd last funk party.
You all know this man and what he is capable of pulling out of his bag of goodies.
We are pleased to offer Obliveus a 2 hour set to do just that!
He's on from 9.30-11.30pm, it's free entry and at 80 Smith St, Collingwood.
Joining Obliveus is none other than the very underground, sometime dj Mr Lob!
Come along and support us and get down and funky on the dancefloor...
Expect straight up original funk breaks from Lob and Obliveus!

Fuck yeah....mr lob wrote:nah man I mean the Suburban Funk Allstars, as we are coming into town from Eastside or maybe that can be the Eastside Funk Allstars!
EASTSIDE FUNK ALLSTARS!!!
That's the bomb.
Let's start some contraversy....
Roy Orbison's got more soul than James Brown
or
Amick's a closet C+C Music Factory fan
or
Mr Lob wears combat boots
or...
I can go on all day. Somebody shut me up.
That's a given. I just picked up 'Contraversy' on vinyl for $10.mr lob wrote:hang on just looking for my compass and waiting for my gps to get a fix on our location...
I think Jim Morrison said the 'West is the Bessst', he was obviously mistaken as his Wild Horse Went Riding ion the wrong direction!
We gonna hear some creedance man?
I've had it on CD for ages, but finally found a copy on vinyl. So good, Prince with the afro was the man back in the day. Actually, Musicology is the best thing he's done since Contraversy IMO. Love that album, too. Got me through some long nights in a hospital bed.mr lob wrote:controversy by Prince?
If so had it for ages, synth funk to the rescue...
eric you better not show up in purple studded underpants man, feeling a closet prince fan comin on here...
i actually picked up on vinyl around the world in a day for a tenner at northside recently! sucka for rasberry beret!!
just got a call from the owner of dirty secrets got a group of 60 coming down from 9pm as well so may need some disco backups man...

"Met her in a hotel lobby masturbating with a magazine"
Man, you know my nickname is Disco Stu, right?
Bummed though. I was actually hoping to drop some Nepalm Death in the mix.
Hoping to pick up my 'Motown Greatest Hits' I got on hold at Alley Tunes. So many classics. Actually, I got 2 Motown Greatest Hits Albums on hold there, except one's a Murphy Brown Show release. Each has a different version of Gladys Knight & the Pips doin "I Heard It Through the Grapevine". One's more mellow funk, while the other is straight-up, Northern Soul magic. Didn't have my wallet on me (forgotten at home--damn!!!) when I went in there. Also got my C+C Music Factory "Things That Make Ya Go Hmmmm" 12" waiting for me. You know you love it...

AWESOME!!! I wasnt sure if the breaks heads would appreciate the non-breaks.....i thought it would be a good 'break' from the regular breakbeat....but then i thought...fuckit!
I had heapsa fun....shoulda continued with the 4x4 cos I thought it would be cool for Guyno...but then he came on and the first track he dropped was 4x4....!!! HA! Oh well....I love bush parties...
BW will be talkin about getting in random guests after the 4th anniversary party in January06.....so keep your hands up.....

Dedicated Breakbeat Shananigans
Depends on how much they're charging. They had em at Cram a while back and they were something like $30-40 each. No double vinyl either. I asked em why and he said that's how much the repressings are sought after. Personally, I dont know each of them well enough to take a pick, but from what Jeff played me, they're all badass. Dont think you could really go wrong.Brain wrote:Ah flashlight, what a song - it has the most insane bass line ever - I remember the first time I heard it I was incredibly stoned and rolled around the floor laughing in amazement.
Question for you guys: of the three Betty Davis records, which is the best one to get?
Brain, yer Flashlight reference is very similar to the first time I heard it, too. Even the rolling around on the floor, except my experience was in a converted garage without carpeting, so if i would've rolled around on the floor I would've got a grease stain on my 2 sizes too small Metallica t-shirt. No way was that going to happen.
brain northside records has some new betty davis pressings for $20, saw them yesterday!
love nasty girl!!
at $20 a pop I'd picked up all 3 albums, also got lots of parliment stuff on vinyl down there and if he don't got it, he'll get it for ya no doubt...
first time I heard pfunk I felt like a rubber band man, was getting all jiggy my girlfriend started to think I'd come good again
