children in detention centres

Post by Friday »

Right now, the Government is trying to enact radical new laws to send all children who arrive via boat seeking asylum to detention centres on remote islands in the Pacific.

Last year, we decided no child fleeing persecution should be made to suffer like this. But – after 42 West Papuans were granted asylum last month – the government wants to change the rules. They want to push this inhumane legislation through next week.

Now it's up to us to stop it. Please sign the petition below today.

done and emailed to colleagues.....

+ posted bulletin on myspace.....

that is fucking terrible, I can't beleive how much the government trys to avoid actually dealing with problems properly. Just sweeping things under the carpet doesn't make them go away.

assuading your own guilt. an online petition carries no weight, it is meaningless without actual signatures. People could be doing something, lodging protestation in a meaningful way. But they dont. Their voice is not being heard because of the method of protest they choose.

yeah the ones that cry when I have a headache suck.
jim-jams lol.

Online petetions arent useless are they? Not if they raise awareness. This campaign is combined with a substantial advertising campaign, anything that get people talking about this situation is gonna be helpful.

That said Australians are generally pretty complacent when it comes to issues like this. Llook at the French for an example of a politically proactive society.

*looting dreams ahoy*

The rubber plant was surprised. If the rubber plant could have spoken, it wouldn't have said anything. That's how surprised the rubber plant was.

what is the point of raising awareness if all that people do is talk amongst themselves? Talk is cheap, i talk to people about stuff everyday. Does that mean the government takes notice? no. Just because people are aware of a problem and possibly speaking to one another about it means nothing. The problem is still there. Nothing is actually done. Sign as many online petitions as you want, talk to your friends about it as much as you like. But dont fool yourself into thinking you have helped those children one iota. It may not be a popular thing to say but it is the truth, this is a cop out. A way to feel good about yourselves without having to actually do anything.
