Producer of 2006
Producer of 2006
Taken from the Sabre thread, seeing as how its nearly the end of the year, who was the producer of the year for you??
For me it would be a toss up between: Break, Sabre and Calibre (hardest working producer in d'n'b right now) - WAY too hard to chose just one.

Trentemoller hands down.
The Last Resort is one of the best, if no the best, peices of electronic music I've ever heard. The attention to detail is just amazing.

Don't hate me for house
Screwface from UK for the hard breaks. So good to see a girl killing it in genre dominated by guys.

I agree with the last EP release, but not the others. There's always a standout 1-2 tracks of every EP or LP that are completely different for him. The dub-sound is usually a reoccurring theme though, and one that I like.Citizen Smif wrote:The thing for me with Calibre.
Ive got into the full Signature catalogue up the LP in a big way then it just got tiring.
I don't know, I find his releases to be the same over and over.
Sabre is a badman.
Gravious is best producer 2006 for me, most amazing music Ive heard for years.
I reakon his releases are getting more and more interesting. I thought the last ep was hot!!Citizen Smif wrote:The thing for me with Calibre.

I felt more that way about his releases a couple of years ago. Its funny how subjective it is.
I cannot stand "Sexy Back".Clerk666 wrote:Good point. Both Number 1's Tooscattermish wrote:timbaland for making me like a justin timberlake song and a nelly furtado song in the same year let alone in this lifetime
Timberlake can sing, why distort his voice?
So not a fan of that song, production is boring too IMO.

But I'll look past him.
I'm pretty sure Spice Girls have had 2 x No.1 hits in previous years also, but I'd hardly rate their producer as the best of the year.
Not saying my opinion is right, it's just my opinion.

you recon the melody in the breakdown is a straight up sample though? I'd love to know what its from and to hear more, props gotta go to the original composer/musician.
that is 100% trueBrain wrote:Screwface is a bloke and a chick according to LE.
the release that came out last week was wicked, and I don't even really like that style much anymore.

although i do kinda like sexyback too, i was actually talking about my love. The synths in that song are farken killa...
and i don't think you can really compare timbaland to the spice girls producer... timbaland is a man who has managed to get cred with heaps of underground cats, and is hitting it big on the mainstream... we're talking about the dude who did lotsa jay-z hits, some of his own stuff, all the missy hits, now timberlake and nelly furtado plus heaps more.. pretty much all of these people i despised (jay-z i just thought was overated) until tim got me into it...
i can understand not liking a track like timbaland, yes you're entitled to your opinion, but duuuudddeee, spice girls??!!!!!
lol :p
Oh dear... my point regarding Spice Girls was that just because someone has got 2 x No.1's, that doesn't make them producer of the year - for me.
I like Timbaland. I've liked him for years.
But he's not my producer of the year.
And I actually prefer his sound a couple of years back to his sound today.
Premo's new stuff on Aguilera's new album is much better IMO.
Logistics new 2LP on Hospital was also badass.
EDIT: and Duo Infernale "Dream Herb" for track of the year for me.

Definately. Never thought I'd see the day when I'd buy a Christina Aguilera album on wax, but... bought the sampler last weekend. Production by Premier and Mark Ronson is badass!!!scattermish wrote: and yeh, them primo tracks from christina are another horrible dirty pleasure of mine
Give me my record back OB1!
It's a guy and a girl actually.Snowie wrote:Screwface from UK for the hard breaks. So good to see a girl killing it in genre dominated by guys.
Lot of standouts for me, in particular in the electro/minimal genre. And I don't even know half of them, so I could be missing someone there. Stuff I've heard of Trentemoller, Martinez, has been pretty dope. Also a stack of other stuff. There's just so much diversity!
Breaks wise - Chris Carter. In the last few months he's come out with a stack of remixes and original work which is just awesome.

Trentemoller for me. Booka shade is definitely up there tho. Man this time last year it would have been breaks breaks breaks for me but yeah trentemoller has lead me into some different genres which is cool! Breaks wise i'd say the rogue element.

fark sexyback is a good song. i actually get up early on weekends to watch it. timbaland is a rad proucer who is also a bizzarely funny knob.
I read a interview with him in i-d where he compared his story with that of jesus and made the analogy that shit was now like "passion of the tim" where everyone was stealing his style and not paying respect. it was all very nouvea street. lol timba.
breaks wise i cant go past 30hz, big stylistic range, from hard techy (for want of another descrpition) through to shuffley housey breaks. excellent technically and makes simple yet full tunes.
also screwface girl? kind of a cute girly name now i think about it. "
actually i forgot chris carter. hasnt got taht many releases this year but they are all rad in their own way. remix of andy page porcelian elvis is bloh-ted.

alix perez for producer of 2006. sabre is also killing it. so is survival, break, mutt, the list goes on... the music is so good right now!
alix perez is also dropping his album in the new year. i hope it has the track that samples billy joel's "new york state of mind".

dubstep: skream. tons of tunes, some of which are spectacular. or coki, because his tunes all have a beautiful vibe and feel no-one else has managed to replicate.
