Yeah that Monteiths is the business.... haven't had that stuff for ages, tried a few of their different brews a while back and thought it was awesome.

Asahi falls in my Stella/Becks category of nice, but not much there to like or dislike IMO.
I'm sure Monteiths use to taste better........ still a lot better than VB or Carlton though.

Its not at the top of my list, I'd stil drink it over a lotf other choices, but was lamenting the fact it use to be better, or at least I think it did. No dammit, I know it did, before it was bought out by DB breweries and repackaged.

That's because it is no longer imported. Check the fine print, made and bottled in Oz now. But, if it's still working for you - enjoy the savings!

Available from Dan Murphy's from Febuary 2007 or Acland Street Cellars right now!

Quality summer Lithuanian Beer, went through 8 slabs with 5 mates in 4 days over Xmas...

ŠVYTURYS EKSTRA (shvi-too-rhys extra) belongs to “Dortmunder/European Export” class, it’s volume is 5.2%, the beer is of transparent golden colour. When one would drink it - the glass will be decorated by perfect thick white head. It is made of fresh malt, rice, bitter and aromatic hops, beer yeast and fresh water. It has an intense aroma of hops and rich long lasting taste that is empowered by slight bitterness generated by hops. Experts of most prestigious competitions – the World Beer Cup and the World Beer Championship – awarded it with gold and silver medals in 2000 and 2001 accordingly. In the competition organised by Confederation of Lithuanian Industrialists this beer was recognised as the product of the year even two times – in 1997 and 1998.

EKSTRA beer was created as a flagman of Å VYTURYS beer family that appeared in 1995. Traditionally, when a new sort is being developed all employees of the brewery take part. Every trial brew is being tested by all employees. Each of them say what is it they like or dislike about it.

The first lot of EKSTRA was offered to employees only and received the most contradictory comments. Some people thought it was too bitter, the others found the bitterness of the beer not sufficient, some wanted it thicker, others – lighter. There were proposals to exclude aromatic hops, to enrich or reduce the aroma and change the yeast to the different kind. However, everyone agreed that new EKSTRA beer needed to be improved.

The technologists were sick from such huge amount of requirements. At the end, they gave up and brewed the second trial lot that was exactly the same. Of course, everyone decided: “now the new beer tastes much better”.

Even higher evaluations of the new beer EKSTRA were provided by experts. It became the most popular beer in Lithuania’s restaurants and bars as soon as it became available for sales and remains the most popular still. It’s exceptional quality and perfect taste are acknowledged by all lovers of the real Lithuanian beer.

According to researches the most titled Å VYTURYS beer is the most favourite beer in Lithuania.

The current favourites in our house are Peroni and Blue Tongue Lager. Both go down a treat I think.

We also have some Blue Tongue Ginger Beer, and I want to try the Blue Tongue Pilsner. (Hope it is better than the Little Creatures Pilsner. That's a dissapointment of a beer).

I disagree really. I find most Italian beers give me a massive headache (due to the preservatives). See Wikipedia for a non-definitive list of Italian beers.

The wines and other spirits originating from Italy, on the other hand are generally bliss.

You should stay away from African beers then. Nasty on the preservatives.
ArrBee just went to India and experienced the glycerol beers, where they put a layer of that on top to preserve the beer. Not good for the uninitiated.

As I've heard. Tasty with fish, sand and rice.

yeh my mate was getting home sick and was crapping on about Castle Larger and how good it was. We found some and drank it, I thought it was pretty ordinarly. I think maybe he was addicted to the mono-phosphide sulfate muntoglagulites in it.

Pretty sure Peroni is imported and not "imported".

Best beer this summer is gonna be my apple & cinnamon ale that i'm gonna brew this week. Big experiment but my housemate is the king home brewer and has done tonnes of crazy beers so hopefully this one might turn out nice.
