Andy C Australian Tour January 2007
Saturday January 27th – HiFi Bar & Ballroom, Melbourne
ANDY C
Last year saw Andy C reign supreme once more as he was crowned Best DJ by Drum & bass Arena for the 6th successive year; a record for the drum and bass industry. He was the highest drum and bass representative at DJs top 100 DJs Poll at number 28, and started the year getting the ultimate accolade from the bible of dance music Mixmag listing him in the top 10 of their Club lands Ultimate Power List. While running his Ram recordings label, signing new talents, producing and travelling across the globe to play some of the biggest clubs, Andy C is a busy man, and one of dance music’s best ambassadors.
When looking over Andy Cs career to date it quickly becomes clear that he has worked extremely hard to get where he is today. Now known as a drum & bass superstar DJ who spends most his time touring the world playing the music that he loves, it is important to note that he has done every menial job there is in this scene just to be part of it. Handing out flyers, selling records, reading instruction manuals, doing night shifts, opening and graveyard slots, Andy has done it. That’s why, even widely acknowledged as the ambassador of drum & bass worldwide, Andy is still working hard for the love of the music and the respect of his massive audience all across the globe
MC GQ
Since its inception back in the early 90's drum & bass has developed at a drastic rate, yet certain themes and characteristics have remained - The charisma, presence and distinctive sound of MC GQ is one such characteristic MC-ing at the top of the chain for more than 15 years has taken GQ to all the corners of the globe, seen him achieve chart success, and even given him the opportunity to establish his very own record label 'Emcee Recordings'.
GQ has always been a DJ's MC, seeing his role as a middle man between the DJ and the crowd rather than constantly demanding centre stage. His versatility is such that he has always been able to switch up to double time and tear down a rave, or keep the crowd bubbling to a liquid set. 'It's all about reading the crowd, and adapting your style.' This approach has meant that you are as likely to see GQ at One Nation alongside Hype as you are to see him with Goldie at a Metalheadz session. Consistency and adaptability have kept GQ at the top of the MC ranks for 15 years and has made him partner to pretty much all of the top flight DJs.
SHIMON
One third of Rams notorious Trilogy collective; Shimon continues to go from strength to strength as one of the scenes most talented producers and wicked DJ’s. Nowadays equally respected as both a talented producer and skilled engineer; on his debut release Predator Shimon was actually only the producer, it was in fact Rams very own legend Ant Miles that pressed all the buttons for him. Although Shimon was delighted to hear it being played in the clubs, with everyone knowing full well that he had co-created it, Shimon wasn’t satisfied. As a result that was the first and last tune where he wasn’t involved in the engineering process.
Although Shimon’s production profile is deservedly overbearing, recently his DJ profile has had a sudden charge, so much so that aside from the Ram Raiders Mix CD you will also find his mixing prowess showcased on the Cover CD of ATM Magazines August issue a studio mix on D&B Arena also appearing on Radio1 and 1 in the jungle. With a solo album pencilled in for mid 2006 and various projects and collaborations keeping him busy. All in all, as ever, Shimon is positively rolling.
D-BRIDGE
The ever evolving D Bridge continues to break the mould of standard drum and bass artists. Originally half of future forces with Maldini this pair would in turn team up with Fresh & Vegas to form the “Wu Tang of DnB†Bad Company. Thus one of Drum & Bass' biggest anthems The Nine was born on the (then fledgling) label BC Recordings. Five years on this seminal release still maintains its mighty status. Propelled by the success of The Nine, the four members soon found their collective gaining momentum with releases on prominent labels including Prototype, Virus, DSCI4, Ram, React and Formation. Fast forward 3 albums, 11 singles, 3 weeks at the top of the UK dance album charts and countless remixes you arrive to solo career of D Bridge.
The latest venture in D-Bridge's (now somewhat eclectic) career is the fruition of a lifetime goal in the form of drum & bass label Exit Records. Exit came about as a result of Darren’s desire to be able to express his own individual qualities as a producer, rather than being a contributor to a greater whole. Embarking on a solo effort seems like a natural progression for Darren, who through the success of Bad Company UK, Spacek and more recently with Istickz has managed to create a diverse and inspirational release catalogue of enviable proportions. With a history as varied and colourful as this, who knows what to expect next from D-Bridge?
