Considering so many ppl on here are getting slr's was thinking it would be good to see other peoples favourite photos and photographers Some of mine are Richard Kern, Ed Templeton, David Lachapelle, Karin Catt, Peter Hegre.
and some people on flickr-
Massive fan of Noah K, he did the photo of himself everyday for 6 years thing on youtube, love his models, his colours and concepts http://www.flickr.com/photos/noahkalina/
So many reasons why. His art resonates with me and he uses the photographic process so well to capture his sculptures.
I wanted to be a hero. I wanted to be the center of attention. I wanted the glory, I wanted the fame. I wanted the pretty girls to come up and say, "Hi, I see that you're good at Centipede."
Well as far as I can tell, he uses photography to capture moments in time. His pieces are all designed to decay, melt, succumb to chaos.
There are a series of photos of him throwing sticks into the air. He captures the moment brilliantly using black & white photography... the sticks become an abstract image.
Sooooo love his work. He apparently classifies himself as a photographer as well as an "artist".

Stray, I didn't know your brain was in the gutter. But now I do. Yes yes I do.
