Tips, hints, help, tech support, setups, systems and all things related to making phat beats. Post your latest production for all to hear & review. Or quiz the resident nerds about that tech problem you just can't figure out.
So i was speaking with a prominant Kiwi musician a while back and one of the things we were discussing was why NZ music is kicking goals. He pointed out that everyone works with everyone so everyone learns off each other.
I was just thinking today, that while this production forum board is usefull, its lacks a hands on approach and visual stimuli.
I suggest a meeting of sorts where one week, we could have a local producer speaking and showing a select group of other local producers their setup, production method and work flow. Kinda like a mini redbull academy. Then the next week we go to another persons.
What do you think? Would anyone be keen to do this?
There are a few peeps in Melbourne who know about production but they like to keep their cards very close to their chests. Chase Spherix up and bugger him with Q's. He knows a lot.

Thats dissapointing to hear, but i guess if you gotta stand out from the crowd you have to be different. Having said that, why has it (sharing methods) worked out so favourable for NZ artists?
maybe he meant colaborating? I recon that's a great way to learn stuff, bit more hands on than just chatting amongst eachother etc, get a feel for what the other producer is talking about etc. Def a good way to learn I recon
yeah i am talking about collabing i guess, but with one producer running the show and a small group of people (maybe 5) watching, putting in feedback/ideas, asking questions on how they did that etc, then the next week its off to the next producers studio and so on. Could see some great tunes coming out of it also
Yeah I'm def up for doing this. I dunno why, but there are a few heads in Melb that REALLY know a lot...They just shut me down when I ever asked for advice. Maybe just prob because a few people don't like me.

no way man, you've helped me heaps. I've been sending your rubbish clips for ages, I recon a couple of years ago I was asking you shit like "what's compression do?" and crap like that.
I can see why, particularly if you've learnt some tricks yourself. But if someone has passed on the tips'n'tricks to you, pay it forward and help someone else out.
It should be your writing that sets you apart, not just your production credits.

there are things like this out there
in melbourne we call it alive, from that many people collab, we'd meet once a month play to a crowd and all the artists would watch each other and ask questions later, sorta exactly what your talking about..
we will be back in summer
in the meantime i have heard of other similar but not quite the same events aroudn melbourne, held on a weekly basis in some places i believe, altho I aint gonna promote for them, so ask around

and i feel like everyone is pretty open and pretty helpful.
pretty much anyone i've ever asked for feedback, help, or advice has been forthcoming.
but ya have to put a bit more effort in than posting on some web forum.
I have mixed views on this.
First you need to establish a music community of some sorts other wise its just a bunch of hippies preaching free music advice.

the live laptop jams at horse bazarre are ok for this but could be better..
though they (horse bazarre) had a night when some guys from bunker came out and had their gear and did a q & a and that was pretty informative
I'd be down for this, and also be up for holding a session in my studio aswell.
