Well, correction - it's all dead matter from an animal innit?

(Really not intending to fire up vego's with that comment).
They're parts of an animal no doubt, but not really meat, would you call offal meat as well?

Coming back from London to Melbourne was definitely a shock to the system, especially as it was just starting to warm up in Melbourne = spiders, flies, insects, bugs... geez. It was nice for 18 months not having to do the Australian wave...

Flies are an incredibly important part of the nutrient cycle; they transform what would otherwise be putrescent, bacteria-riddled flesh into forms of nitrogen and phosphorous that are readily absorbed by plants.

The current fly 'plague' has been brought on by a combination of two factors:

1. Sufficient moisture and warmth in the more northern regions of the country.

2. Early northerly winds, carrying them to us.

Unfortunately, we may be stuck with them if conditions continue to be optimal... this is what happens with locusts... moisture + warmth + moisture + warmth will allow successive generations to multiply. So the current situation may get worse. The short lifespan of the fly means nothing if it is able to reproduce several generations in quick succession.

My 2c.

GRRRRRRR to the flies. Yeah its all about the warm winds....too many paps from cattle in NSW............

I know that flies are important part of the ecology BUT perhaps an invention could be done where you can have an injection/swallow a pill/whatever that allows your skin to produce some toxin/chemical that repels flies away from you. Or even kills them on contact. There would still be enough flies away from human habitation.

Agent Flykill or sumfink.

At the same time it would have to be odourless, harmless to mammals (?) and last a long while.

Screw insect repellant - that shit doesnt work. HATE FLIES!!!!

so, is it true that every time a fly lands on you, he vomits a tiny bit?

this bothers me more than the shooing.

little fuckers land on your lip or eye and retch, leave behind a bit of fly bile..

Whats all this about flies. I haven't even noticed them. Then again I only just found my sunglasses after 3 weeks of looking so I don't think we should rely on captain percepticon over here.

Had a wedding to attend out near Hanging Rock yesterday, just a wonderful and beautiful ceremony, but peeps all had to take a bit of fern ( we walked through bush to get to a clearing where the ceremony was held) with the bride coming in to some wonderful dige music.....

But wish i had taken a photo at several points in the day everyone there had their bit of fern fanning the farking flies away! Looked hilarious...

At one point there were that many flies in teh marquee where food was served you could not see the middle support beam.....

Hell over it by the end of the day....
