nice!
these are some of my favourite watches.
Phillipe Stark
(mine is red though)
Nixon Vega SS
Nixon Rayna
Gucci
This has the most beautiful strap at the back. It's old old style buckle with the pin that goes through but all made out of metal. Can't find a pic of the back of it though!
Bvlgari. Love the strap on this one! Of course can't find a pic with the strap though.
I've got some beautiful old Swiss watches too that I can't find pics for. I have WAY too many watches. Love them though. Such beautiful pieces of mechanics / art.

All Saints Chapel in the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis by Louis Comfort Tiffany. The building structure and decorations are both examples of design.
A drawing for a booster engine for steam locomotives. Engineering is applied to design, with emphasis on function and the utilization of mathematics and science.
Design, when applied to fashion, includes considering aesthetics as well as function in the final form.Design, usually considered in the context of applied arts, engineering, architecture, and other creative endeavors, is used both as a noun and a verb. As a verb, "to design" refers to the process of originating and developing a plan for a product, structure, system, or component. As a noun, "a design" is used for either the final (solution) plan (e.g. proposal, drawing, model, description) or the result of implementing that plan (e.g. object produced, result of the process). More recently, processes (in general) have also been treated as products of design, giving new meaning to the term "process design".
Designing normally requires a designer to consider the aesthetic, functional, and many other aspects of an object or a process, which usually requires considerable research, thought, modeling, interactive adjustment, and re-design.
OBEY really is a king isn't he. Although he is not the most complicated of graphic designers, his concepts and projects touch at the very essense of a movement. Respect really.
My friend has an exhibition commencing this week (Thursday night) at the National Design Centre in Fed Square. His thing is lighting design ...

sheppard fairey is certainly good at promotion, which is what design is about as much as anything.DBoy wrote:OBEY really is a king isn't he. Although he is not the most complicated of graphic designers, his concepts and projects touch at the very essense of a movement. Respect really.

FUCK thats hot!!!retzie wrote:Mmm, Alfa Brera. They are lovely on the inside too - wish I'd gotten to drive it. They have inherited a lot of the functionality from the 156 upgrade to the 159, so they aren't as bad as they could have been on that front. Mind you, would willingly put up an awful lot for the sheer awesome of owning one. Makes the competition look like they're from Ikea.
With the exception of the 80s, Alfa's are generally on the money on the aesthetics front (Giulietta Spider anyone?). And I hope we've all see the 8C...

Design does also focus on making things more functional, more useful, more suitable to environment, smaller, larger, prettier, generally more athsetic, bla bla bla.

you're confusing intent/purpose with awareness. two different layers in the stack.DBoy wrote:thats a huge misconception.system wrote:sheppard fairey is certainly good at promotion, which is what design is about as much as anything.DBoy wrote:OBEY really is a king isn't he. Wow. how do you know Volker Polecat? I used to work with the gentle giant, and dare i say most of our work will be attending this.Polecat wrote:My friend has an exhibition commencing this week (Thursday night) at the National Design Centre in Fed Square. His thing is lighting design ...

Gentle giant! I love that description of him
I am one of his loyal clients and friends who followed him from Lure. I'll be going along to see his stuff, as well as do a little haircut spotting.... see how many Volker hairdos I can spot in one room!

when it comes to OBEY > you are both right imo.system wrote:can we agree to disagree?DBoy wrote:NO! you are confussing design as a concept with design as a practice.
without the purpose and beauty of his designs, the promotion is not relevant.
without the promotion, the design has a different context.
there is no way he could have the name he has for either without both factors.
from an art/design perspective, i think fairey's promotional tactics are actually more 'revolutionary' than his design, but thats just my opinion.
hmm, you probably would have been able to spot a volker do on me a while ago, however its grown out a little and now sports some curls which are generally tucked under a black cap.Polecat wrote:Gentle giant! I love that description of him

I work in packaging and branding design so its not surprising that i'm most excited by this type of thing, although i love all types of design, with particular interest in fashion and architecture.
[edit] poo, images didn't work. Look at website, loads of wicked packaging. My favourites are in the alcohol section. Mad wine labels and spirit bottles.

• Good design is consequent to the last detail.

If you all love and are invovled in design you are going to be very impressed with the State of Design. I am overwealmed to be involved with it this year, the plans are off the hook.

Yeah, i do.DEAN G wrote:Who here works in the design industry?
Graduated from Monash VisComm last year and working as a junior at an advertising studio...
Design wise, i love well handled type. To me nothing can beat it. Hence, i love publication design.
But any form of design gets me off. Industrial design (Asont Martin DB9), Architecture (6 degrees, some DCM stuff), & studios like Frost/ Fabio/ 3 deep rock my world with the work they produce.
The great thing i found about design, is that you are constantly emerced in it, whether its good or bad design. I know as a designer when i walk down a street, i am analysising every piece of design that i come into contact with, even if i dont know im doing it. It is just the way my mind works and i love it. I know some people would hate not being able to escape the job. But for me, design isnt a job, its a hobby, and im just lucky enough to get paid to do it:D
I just found this thread! I love it.DEAN G wrote:Who here works in the design industry?
I have worked as a Digital Artist / Retoucher / Designer in Advertising for 8 years.
Also on the side I have been doing freelance design for stuff like club artwork. I did alot of the Tekstep and BBA flyers.
I think I will be visiting this tread again! Nice

Should just be able to put the font file into the 'font' folder in the 'windows' directory. Should have a load bar type of thing.breaksRbest wrote:DBoy wrote:Mac or PC?breaksRbest wrote:<hijack>

if you change the system/user fonts on any operating system (not by using a font management program, though), you'll need to restart the application you were using to have the fonts available for use.

not true. if you use a font management tool (suitcase/atm/linotype explorer/et al), that takes the font management tasks away from the operating system.drew wrote:youll find with PC's youll have to reload the program for a font to load into it where on mac it will load automatically when loaded out of suitcase or what not...
