LTJ BUKEM
Just who is LTJ Bukem? Ground breaking DJ? Inspirational musician? Record label entrepreneur? When the man behind those wire rimmed glasses writes his job description just what does he put? Or maybe he just writes 'Renaissance man for a digital age'. In truth LTJ Bukem is all of the above.
As a teenager, Bukem regularly checked out the local soul clubs and legendary rare groove day parties, during this time he also ran jazz funk bands and played around on the turntables, however it was in 1988 that Bukem first realised that DJing could offer a full-time career.
In 1990, LTJ Bukem got his first big break - at 'Raindance' booked to play in front of 10,000 people.
Soon after, Bukem ventured into the studio and one of the most influential DnB Record labels of all time was born â€“ Good looking Records.
From there came the timeless classics - Music, Horizons, Demon's Theme and Logical Progression to name just a fewâ€¦
The start of the 21st century saw LTJ Bukem continuing on his extraordinary musical odyssey with his long awaited solo album 'Journey Inwards'; a diverse album of drum 'n' bass, soul, downbeat and house tracks that opened the eyes of those that had no faith and warmed the souls and inner belief of those that did.
On top of this he has continued the 'Progression Sessions' series of live mixes captured on CD, featuring lush performances recorded live in The USA, Tokyo and Germany.

I quite liked the last show, but.. everytime I go to the Hifi the sound is really trebly and harsh. Love the Prince for sound though, and love that BBA is putting it on! Looking forward to a classy setup.

Seen them play multitude of venues, from Hi-Fi (worst) to Homelands in the UK, including the Mitsibishi factory in Port Melbourne, but hands done the vibe of Prince, for me, suits them best.

I'm more than happy for Mr. Bukem to play music from whatever label he choses. In fact, I'd rather he did...

My point was that the most recent GLR/LGR releases were getting a tad on the boring side regarding drums for me... The rest of the production is fine, but gone are the cut-up and edited amen breaks - it would be nice to see a resurgence in those beats from the man. That would make for a nice future for me!

Of course, this is just from my point of view.

Bukem got me into DNB, he and Conrad will forever be held in high-esteem for me... Haven't missed one Bukem show in Melbourne since hearing my first Progression Sessions, and certainly don't plan to in the future.

I saw Bukem a few months ago in NY with Steve Tickka. Was an intersting night! Not that bigga crowd but was all pretty much new beats.

That was the first time I saw Bukem & Conrad... I thought it was a bit ordinary - the man was clearly not impressed with the setup... if I recall correctly the monitors and decks were problematic from the get-go.

Wasnt paying much attention to all that - I had all my crew over from Adelaide, we were mightily messed up and having a ball. Just remember that and seeing a circus tent with about 5000 people crammed in singing and dancing along.

Roni & Dynamite played for a bit - but I remember they were shut down in the end due to "noise restricitons" - at like 11pm or something...

It felt like 10 min to me. I remember they were so late because De La Soul went so overtime. They wouldnt get off the bloody stage! GRRR.

From what I can remember all the stages were running late because 1 or 2 tents got closed down due to not enuff tix getting sold. De La only played for about 1/2 hour. But hey...my memory is a bit smoky!
