I wanted to be a hero. I wanted to be the center of attention. I wanted the glory, I wanted the fame. I wanted the pretty girls to come up and say, "Hi, I see that you're good at Centipede."

I just read the thing on mbf. it makes reference to cash going to Participating contributors. isn't this a reference to shareholders and not mbf members.
I think it might be shareholders receiving the cash, not mbf members. would make sense if this is a merger, and Bupa is the initiating party.
don't quote me on that though.

I called the hotline (above) and the guy told me that since I had been a member since 1999, and had been on such and such policy, that I will get a cash refund on June 30 to the value of X.mrj wrote:lynt

I'm not a shareholder, just a policy holder.

hey yeah, didnt think of that. i reckon a few people will cancel their cover just for the $50 a month. fees would likely go up if they lose a heap.

paid $40 for a dentist visit this week...
paid $25 for 1.5 hour chinese massage a few weeks ago too....
mad rebates
does this threshold change effect the income year 07/08??? or is it just for the next one?
its so confusing.
too many providers, none of them easily understood by me.
just get NIB basic plus, you wont need anything more unless you have a family..... easy as...
$60 per month....
you get a card to swipe when you use it... they usually pay about 2/3 of any bill (in my experience)
dental
osteo
massage
etc etc
eidt: oh, and the main thing is if something bad happens and you have to go to hospital you only pay $500 (you can get a $250 one but the premium is more)

i must admit i have used it every 6months for dentist check ups. they rinse it for $190 clean and polish (wtf) then i dont use it for another 6 months when i go back for another check up. useless when i got an ultrasound which i also think cost $190. have to be in patient to get any cover. luckily $90 back from medicare.
if i had to have any kind of rehab etc it would be good.

I just signed up kitty, and it took me forever to chose. Even more annoying that I work in insurance, yet i still found it confusing. Great timesghetto kitty wrote:i still dont have health cover.deviant wrote:health insurance has been nothing but WIN for me.

Basically, there all offering similar things depending on the cover you want. You need to know what you want cover for before you can chose, makes it heaps easier. For me, i just needed physio, dental, optical and some nut case cover, which i found easily. that throwing possums shit is actually quite useful, iselect.com cos you can enter what you want cover for and not have to bother with the other guff.
Interesting how Liberal reduced medicare benefits, pushed and pushed us into private, then labour come in and change it, up the medicare thingo and health insurance increases. Awesome edit: this isnt me having a go at labour or liberal btw, no politics here robbo

I wonder if it will cause the "mass exodus" from private health that happened in the 90's?? That was the whole reason the Libs pushed everyone into it.Lil MiSbreaks wrote:I just signed up kitty, and it took me forever to chose. Perhaps if they had put the infrastructure in place so that the overstretched public system could cope with the influx, then it would be ok.

yes yes, until you have a life threatening what if (god forbid) which leaves you not only physically stuffed for ages but also financially crippled.ghetto kitty wrote:thats exactly it, i only go to the dentist every so often.huge wrote:i must admit i have used it every 6months for dentist check ups. they rinse it for $190 clean and polish (wtf) then i dont use it for another 6 months when i go back for another check up. useless when i got an ultrasound which i also think cost $190. have to be in patient to get any cover. luckily $90 back from medicare.

it only takes getting hit by a car/party mishap/falling off your bike/something that keeps you in hospital for ages to stuff everything up
and it does happen

Thats assuming a massive influx id guess. although there would undoubtably be an increase, one point of view could be that the young singles dropping off the private insurance previously thrust upon them don't really have many health needs anyway... and primailry used the insurance for dentists, optomtrists, physio etc- the strain on providers of which wont be affected either way?C.I.A. wrote: Pretty pissed off with Rudd et al for doing this.

id also note that whilst not enough to fix the system, the new gvt has increased its proportion of health spending, whereas the libs steadily reduced thiers.
the thing about public health is its never about fixing all problems, moreso a rationing of limited resources
