Incorrect.

The dust rarely comes from lens changing, its more to do with the type of lenses you are using, non-sealed lenses tend to be 'dust-pumps'. Do an experiment at home take a zoom lens, off camera, hold one hand behind the rear element (don't touch it!) and zoom the lens with your free hand.
Feel that air? thats full of whatever the environment around you is.

It is not unusual for digtial bodies (from all manufacturers but largely canon?? particularly 5D's.) to come with factory installed dust.

If you stick to primes/lenses with internal zoom/focus then dust will be less an issue.

Newer camera bodies tend to have better materials in the mirror-box which make them less prone to dust.

The most sophisticated in-camera dust removal systems are largely ineffective and additional cleaning will be neccessary. Several companies make products to do this yourself. I like Photo Solutions products, been using them for a long time with good results.

Meanwhile if you are shooting with a dirty sensor then using larger apertures will reduce the visibility of dust spots.

Checking for dust-spots is easily accomplished by taking an out of focus shot of a flat coloured surface with the flash on @ F22, auto-levels in photoshop and there is your dust.

You will rarely, if ever see visible 'spots' from dust in/on a lens. Dusty lenses result in a loss of contrast and subsequently perceived sharpness.

Do an experiment at home, take a 50mm+ lens, a blank UV filter and a permanent marker.

Sign your name on the front element; take a photo at a largish aperture (F8 or larger). You'll see very little difference. I've tested this with a 28mm lens and noticed nothing until about F5.6. This is related to depth of field.

This has been a Lachie service annoucement.

did it come off as rude? Sorry, some of the work really does blow me away, i got nothing on this stuff. But Melbourne is a big place, i can not figure how over the last 20 pages the same 3 locations pop up every single week. Interesting as it is to see everone's different take on the same thing I look around and see amazing architecture and locations everywhere. Would just love to see some scouting of wicked spots to give things a bit of "where the fuk is that!"

Didnt mean to be rude, well, only a little.

ah I would agree with you about the same locations but when you are in the city each night and on a vespa it's easy to stop and take a few snaps!

not that you were talking about me directly mate.

besides I tried shooting in vermont south but just wasn't inspired

cheers mate!

I don't really shoot at night, so wanted to try my hand at classic melbourne icons, as opposed to creating something new and original, which would have been great as well.

Infact I'm more into documenting what I see happening around me everyday, so these shots were just to prove to myself that i could do them really

mecka and i go out and about to diff locations, it can be tricky though. i mean, fuck, if we had the money we would prob jump a plane to somewhere for photo mission day rather than 'hey how about the docklands, WE haven't done that one yet'. everyone has done it already, i think of a good spot, and then look on here and its been done. bah!

Oli-San, lets charter a plane for the next one jah!

Melbourne is more than buildings and landmarks, and a majority of my best shots are from right here.

Just an idea, but try changing the subject matter. Instead of shooting a location, shoot a theme. Sounds painfully obvious, I know, but makes for a good days shooting if your restricted to 1 theme, and it trains you to "look" for your photos.

We should all agree on a theme, shoot for a week, and post our shots.

i was kinda being sarcastic Karlos. Its all a matter of opinion. i like the shots i take, not all of them, but most. Sometimes the ones i don't think much of, others like.

Often when i comment on someone else's shot and think its good, could not be the actual subject but the effect of the shot, or the difficulty in taking it, or it could be just the colours....or of late, i am lovin seeing some of the stuff people do in photoshop (eg. Pam's stuff).

and no one on here is a pro, we are all amateurs just lovin what we are doin, something to keep note of i.e. we all clearly love doing this
