yeh not sure

I like the fact thats its putting focus on China. They look worse and worse the more effort they put in to trying to look better.

As for the sport, yeh I'm sure I'll watch some of it and enjoy some of it. Nothing better than kickin back with a fag and a beer watching bronzed aussies kick the asses of some person from somewhere that isn't Australia

They prefer the term gay, mate.

I'm excited for the Olympics, shame Australia is rolling out 2nd or 3rd last for the opening ceremony tonight though.

I dunno. I've got mixed feelings about this. Hosting the olympics has forced China to lift the red curtain to a certain extent (which I think is a positive thing).

I know that they are doing untold damage to their ecosystem at the moment, but this is driven by western desire for cheap goods that are free of EPA and worker-rights -added tariffs... so in a sense everyone who buys a piece of the cheap 'Made In China' contributes to a growing ecological nightmare. So in some ways I can't be too pissed off, cos they are only responding to market forces.

Human rights... now that is a whole other can'o'worms... but at the same time I think we would be hypocrites to bleat too loudly... our indigenous Australians have one of the lowest life expectancies on the planet and the Australian government has been party to (by ignoring) Indonesian atrocities for decades.

I heard they have a new Tank Racing through Tiananmen Square event this year, as well as the 400 metre torture relay.

But weightlifting is the win. bare drama.

Hardy, if you were making a joke about the Tiananmen Square massacre, then I've got as much of a right to be offended by your joke as you do to make it.

If not, if I've misread it, sorry mate.

And the bullshit begins...
Hackett's credit card expired this week in the middle of the athletes' village, prompting a desperate phone call to parents Marg and Nev on the Gold Coast.

Thankfully, mum and dad have come to the rescue, securing him a new card before flying out today for Singapore en route to Beijing.
WHO FUCKING CARES.

I liked Bruce McAvany (sp?) during the athlete's walk...

"And here come the Jamaicans, the men are doing exceptionally well in the 400 metres, and the women are just stunning."

Was it just me, or did the camera crew miss most of the good bits. There's thousands of people on the field, all perfectly positioned to show some meaningful big picture and the fucking camera man's showing us a close up of the oriental scrolls. ffs :x

It's gonna be tough avoiding this given I'm living with a sports nut

ken oath, commentary was horrid, i couldn't help but laugh when the girl said, "surely thats the biggest ever mexican wave" or something similar, when there was possible maybe 500 people doing it, obviously never been to the cricket on boxing day when 90,000 people do it.

You gotta wonder, are they just reading from a script the Chinese wrote or did they do their own research and coming up with these fantastical tidbits?

The type of drum was developed 1000 years ago.. each drum isn't that old.
I thought this was obvious?

But I do agree the commentary was lame.

the 'type' of drum is over 1000 years old, not teh actual ones they were playing on

I've been following these olympics this year - mainly because both the left and right wing nut jobs hate the fact it's in China.

And I hate those people, so it's win-win if I watch it!

That, and the fact I don't have Foxtel...

But the Ch 7 commentary is horrible.
