07 October 2008
Dear Licensees, Members and Associates,
As part of the evaluation of the 2am lockout KPMG would like to conduct an online survey of licensee's along with patron's and the community to gain further information on their perspectives and have asked that we provide the following information. These survey's are on top of the group consultations also being undertaken with licensee's and for the evaluation.
Follows is an overview of the surveys, which include the purpose, an overview of the sections, and importantly the web link for access to the survey.
The survey itself should only take about 5-10 minutes to fill out.
As part of the distribution of the patron survey KPMG would like to invite venues to post a flyer up in their venue (i.e. doorway, noticeboard or at the bar) advertising the survey. Therefore, Venues are invited to post this information up in a prominent position. Other distribution methods include advertising in local newspapers.

It is called IP gathering. This IP will be used by KPMG in their marketing to win government work.
All big firms do this shit, infact i am working on something similar, lol.
Not related to 2am lockouts however.
Go Big Business, asking you if you have a problem, then telling you they can fix it coz they know all about it, LOL

love doing surveys that was great fun.
Re: 2am lockout survey, PLEASE fill out MB.comers, we NEED YOU!
Done, although I wasn't very pleased with the structure of the questions. You just know this information is going to be twisted...

Did it too.....
My god we saw the best cop response to some dicks Saturday night... It was amazing.... there needs to be a zero tolerance stance taken against violence..... and they need to get onto the young little hoods kicking around in gangs in outer suburbs terrorizing all ... coz they grow up to be these dicks in the city... IMO.
Oh and TAZERS..... this city needs more fuckin tazers.....
Brumby needs a good tazering!

Re: 2am lockout survey, PLEASE fill out MB.comers, we NEED YOU!
big thanks to all of you who took the time to do this.
i know it could be dodgy, but dammit, we are trying all angles possible.
i am quite certain that
1) they will bring in a blanket 3am lockout
2) a third of our venues will close in the year following
3) there will be more violence on the streets
its really sad too that many venues are doing the 'ignore it and it will go away' tactics too.
the ALLM has not got the support from all the liscensees it should have,
everyone is still not united agaisnt this and that makes me sad.
i have such a utopian hope that revolution is possible if only we all stand together....
but perhaps im just an idealistic hippy really.

Re: 2am lockout survey, PLEASE fill out MB.comers, we NEED YOU!
why is an accounting company doing research like this? shouldn't the fucking government be doing this? no information about how this data will be used.
Re: 2am lockout survey, PLEASE fill out MB.comers, we NEED YOU!
firms like KPMG, PWC, E&Y etc have more than just accounting. Their biggest divisions are accounting, but they also do IT Auditing (ie Project Management, Forensic IT etc), Business Process Reengineering, Risk Management (non financial) yadda yadda yadda.....
for example KPMG have a Government Advisory Service division (in fact quite a large one) that is dedicated to providing services to the Government like this. Pretty much their whole Canberra office works on government projects.
The Government can't do it themselves because they simply don't have the expertise, and results would always be questionable as they would lack objectivity. Government uses many contractors, on everything from Environmental Audits and reviews of EPA work to Accounting firm reviews of Treasury policy.

huhuhuhu
for example ernst & young did a reveiw on the ENTIRITY of the operations here at City of Melbourne last year.... was a big job and caused a lot of drama here and in the media.
we also use mercer for a lot of statistics projects.
We have data and are providing information relating to the lockout..... significant down-turn in post 2am pedestrian numbers... I'm not at liberty to really say much else

Media Release 3 October 2008
City Safety Summit - ‘Collaboration Is Key’
Today’s City Safety Summit facilitated by the City of Melbourne provided the opportunity to gain the views and potential solutions to late night safety issues and to strengthen relationships to ensure a proactive approach.
The Summit brought together those people in the Melbourne community who make decisions and who influence decisions in a setting that allowed for frank discussions and the tools to map a road forward.
The Lord Mayor John So said that the Summit had provided the opportunity to develop a shared understanding of the issues surrounding late night city safety and had enabled a clear exchange of views.
“This is the first time that so many key stakeholders have assembled like this in Melbourne which demonstrates that people want to take a collaborative approach with regard to this multi-faceted issue.
“While there are no quick fixes with regard to this complex issue, a number of initiatives have been identified and today’s Summit develops and reinforces the next steps in the process toward improving late night safety within our city,” the Lord Mayor said.
Initiatives raised included:A full report will now be provided to all participants to inform and underpin their planning to address this issue.
- • Developing a high-level coordinating mechanism to report to the Premier on progress in improving safety.
• Convening a Monday morning group to review the weekend outcomes and plan across agencies.
• Reviewing planning to identify gaps and inconsistencies across legislation and policy.
• Developing a strategic entertainment plan for the city.
• Increasing the availability of Night Rider buses and locations of safe taxi ranks
• Improving security and lighting around transport hubs.
• Increasing numbers and visibility of police.
• Increasing consistency of appearance, standards and visibility of security officers in and around venues.
• Ensuring consistency of roles and responsibilities for safety in and around venues
• Developing “safe spaces” to provide support and assistance for young people.
• Developing a community-wide campaign to foster cultural change in our attitude to alcohol and other drugs and violence.
• Consulting with youth to build relationships in order to identify their needs and expectations.
• Building the capabilities of venue management.

THE State Government is set to dump its 2am lockout policy but hire hundreds more police to fight alcohol-related crime.
The Government will today ditch its blanket policy of CBD and inner-suburban lockouts in favour of a scaled-down, more strategic system to target rogue pubs and clubs.
A new report by KPMG is believed to have found the 2am lockout trials, which caught hundreds of clubs and pubs in the CBD and inner suburbs in the net, had not worked efficiently.
Instead, the Government has backed a more strategic lockout system where officials will be able to impose limited lockouts designed to clean-up specific problems like violence at a big nightclub.
