Music Video Clips

Post by DBoy »

As a younger man and for many many years after I loved Rage. I think Rage is one of the great music institutions of the world. Think about all the amazing guest programmers they have let loose to play what ever they want. There has been no selling out, and how long has it been running for 30 years?

Now with the interweb thingy taking over we can probably type in just about any music vid and check them out when we want, which is great, but i dont know what im looking for. So suggest away.

Best in my opinion (no order) - and this is not just because i like the songs either, which is interesting to me.

Guns'n'Roses - November Rain
Matallica - One
The Cure - Lullaby
AC/DC - thunderstruck
Michael Jackson - Thriller (of course)
orbital - The Box
Beastie Boys - Sabotage (had to be one Beastie's in there)
Daft Punk - Around the World
pharcyde _ (can't remember the name of the tune, but it was dope!)

There has to be thousands out there, the more quirky the better.

Great thread.

Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit (made me wanna play drums, the water bouncing off that snare in slo-mo - so cool)
Chili Peppers - Californication (arcade game stylee)
Rage Against The Machine - Sleep Now In The Fire (they delay Wall St from opening, first time ever I think)
Beasties - Sabotage (definately DBoy)

Puff Daddy's late 90's Bad Boy Records empire has some AWESOME film clips, the full versions spanning around 10-12mins with intro's, intermissions and outro's telling a story - most cool. 'Victory' and 'All About The Benjamins' were pretty sweet from memory... Victory had Danny DeVito and some other well known actor, perhaps Christopher Walken?

Hip Hop video's are hard. Like the music the 90's was a gem of a time for good hip hop videos, but the aspects that made them cool got taken to far. Originally, like the music, the videos showed a lifestyle. For me, you can't go past "aint nothing but a G Thang" for the prime of this genre. Showed a day in the life of snoop and co, with the glamour of the cars etc. But since then, the showiness of them has just gone to far, no one is going to disagree. Shame hip hop couldn't keep it's oringinality up in that area.

Saw a clip on the Chappelle show called Pussy Poppin'...and much as the name suggests, there are indeed girls who likely pop.

I remember writing this stuff before...is there an old clip thread??

Massive Attack - Be Thankful (Limousine) - killer fucking clip
Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up
Madonna - Frozen

...and I like watching Kylie Minogue's "Slow" cause there's lots of beautiful people and colours (shiney!) and it's well directed.

New Order - The Perfect Kiss

Almost 9 minutes of live goodness :). It was filmed in their practice room, all the members look pretty awkward, but it's one of the most intimate film clips I've ever seen.

without a doubt Rage was the thing I missed most about OZ when i moved away.

I used to love getting in at 2 or 3 after drinking, putting on Rage and saying " I will go to bed after the next good song" and being up for the next 3 hours!

In terms of dnb clips-absoloute fave of mine is Goldie-Inner City Life. I too had a Rage video tape!!

Reprazent/Roni Size did lots of cool ones to-Brown Paper Bag is the obvious classic, Dity Beats and Lucky Pressure are also faves.
High Contrast has also done lots with all the cinematic references-Racing Green is best!

In other genres Rabbit in Your Headlight also gets my vote, and any Shynola clips (they have worked for Radiohead, Unkle, QOTSA, Blur etc). Chemical Bros clips are always great too-Star Guitar, Hey Boy, Hey Girl, The Test..

Yep, loved that one. Plus Front 242's 'Headhunter', and the clip for 'Cold Sweat' by Bjork when she was still one of The Sugarcubes. Visage's 'Fade to Grey' was pretty kitschly nifty.

Plus this newer one (label self-promotion alert!!):

Conversational Dentures 'Suicidio'

Watch the posted video on YouTube.
