South of the River v. North of the River
So where's the better breaks scene - North of the Yarra or South of the Yarra?
thinking of moving to Melbourne and have friends in St Kilda and Nth Fitzroy. where would be the better place to stagger home to?

Since the CBD is north of the river, we have a slightly unfair advantage. Plus everything south of the yarra is arse..

you see, it all depends what end of Chapel you speak of here, Windsor has a great vibe, no doof, they tend to turn around at Commercial Rd, High st at the latest.andy_hoffman wrote:lol... brunswick street has it's own style yeah. chapel street... now that's a bit more laughable! far more people thinkin they're trendy down there i think. then you get the sick cunts pumpin out destiny's child on their stereos in their hotted up lancers.Smile on Impact wrote:andy_hoffman wrote:Since the CBD is north of the river, we have a slightly unfair advantage. Fuck at kitty.
South has Revolver and the odd Prince of Wales gig.
North has Alia, Ace morning (whatever its called now)
City has workshop, BA, La Di Da and Lounge.
Not many other breaks venues other that I can think of tbh.

Re: South of the River v. North of the River
alia is in fitzroy...
alia is small venue with regular good nights booked by nice peoples...
ace morning is now called /my aeon' (dumbest name change ever!)
and is way up sydney rd a long way from anything really..
they have all kinds of things there, one offs through to regular monthlys with great tunes also booked by great peoples..
revolver is walking to st kilda, but its a bit of a walk..
revs is your bigger, international breaks gigs and late night/early mornin destination, also booked by great peoples
POW is bigger again, bigger acts again, and is in st kilda. very random breaks stuff thee, they have all kinda of bands, hip hop, techno, gay nights etc etc, totally mixed bag and you only go there for specific acts, the other places are all nice places to drop into whenever..fuck knows who books the prince
whew, hope that helps!
if you want a regular diet of local cheap breaks gigs and rent that is affordable, move north i think,
then you can aford the random taxi back to north from south if you go to revs' or POW now and then..
(its about $20 from st kilda to northsyde)

I thought this was in reference to North Warrandyte vs Ringwood North FFS.
What are all these trendy suburbs yer all talkin bout? The city's really only good for one thing...CROWN CASINO!!! I love how they pack all the greatest that Melbourne has to offer into one dinner show...plus the pokies.
RNB Superclub is where the true playaz of the scene congregate...dont be fooled. There or Knox Ozone. I reckon if you could somehow attach Knox Ozone and Crown Casino by way of a east corridor pipeline, then we'd curb all this street violence caused by breaks/dnb/dubstep supporters. They love the pokies.
Whoahhh...coffee rush. I'll go now.

Mate, really - everything is fairly accessible, unless you live out in the sticks like OB1
I'd base your residential more of where you actually want to live.
As long as your living in one of the inner suburbs - the north and south aren't that far apart really, even by public transport.

I live like 2-3 suburbs from St. Kilda, in Malvern East, and it's around $20 getting to St. Kilda from mine.

Re: South of the River v. North of the River
@funkyfarm: Cabs are pretty damn cheap in Melbourne so it's not a huge deal to get a cab for a 10-15 minute ride... more so if you share with friends. I couldn't believe it in London when I wanted to go from north (Shoreditch) to South West (Putney) and the going rate was 40-45 quid, ie. AU$100. In Melbourne it's half the price. (London has a better public transport system though, however who really wants to share a dirty, blood + sweat stained night bus home with the other riff raff when you're spannered?)
Re: South of the River v. North of the River
Hut? straight up cunt road, turn left and yer there, from St kilda you pass Prahran, Sth Yarra, Richmond, turn left on Victoria and your at Collingwood ie norfside.Direkt wrote:^ not really... but more the point, St. Kilda (proper) is definately not.
Even from St Kilda its 3 burbs, you probably wont get change from a $20 (as you bastards should all tip) i live in St Kilda and it usually only $15 to the city

st kilda n prahran did my head in after a while... no my kinda people on the whole, only made a couple of close friends. after moving to carlton/fitzroy its much more relaxed and theres heaps of humans to wave at, collective consciousness is more breaks, less wtf.
revolver does pack a big twisted punch, lateshow for breaks, big... in small dose's, once a month, 20th dec to be exact, me n implants are gonna rock the dead donkey from 2-7
