Sunday January 25

The Bug(UK) and Warrior Queen(JA) at The Laundry Bar

The Laundry Bar presents Melbourne's first ever dubstep producer and vocalist rinse out. Expect the bass to be heaving, the hands in the air and the ladies up front!!

The Bug is the current dubstep mutation of legendary producer Kevin Martin who has been a rogue studio scientist locked into the lab defying genres and producing such varied music as his work in, Techno Animal/Ice/God , King Midas Sound, Razor X Productions, Pressure and Ladybug. He has also worked with noise-jazz outfit 16-17, E.A.R projects, John Zorn, Kevin Shields, El-P, and Anti Pop Consortium to name a few. Then one fateful day in 2004, Kode 9 interviewed Kevin for a mag. Realising they had the same taste in music, Kode 9, invited him to Fwd Club at Plastic People. Discovering that these people shared the same hunger for bass, space, and unaligned sonic trajectories, Bug felt right at home alongside Loefah, Digital Mystikz and Skream.

Skip to 2009 and The Bug is touring to push the next evolution, his album ‘London Zoo’ out on Ninja Tune. A record that although will be undoubtedly referenced to the dubstep scene will also redefine and stand on its own as a celebration of the capitals urban cultural clash, uniquely detonating dancehall, grime, hip-hop, and noise onslaughts. Already with 3 massive singles ‘Jah War’, ‘Skeng’ , and ‘Poison Dart’ obviously part of its uniqueness will be its use of vocalists including Tippa Irie, Flowdan, Ricky Ranking and The Warrior Queen.

Jamaica's Warrior Queen had the privilege of spending her childhood in her Uncle's record store and playing and chanting on his sound system. It didn't take her long to begin releasing dancehall tracks on the Penthouse label. Now Warrior Queen is one of the most in-demand dubstep vocalists working in the UK today. Having worked with Skream, The Bug, Kode9, DJ Zinc and many more on labels such as Rephlex, Soul Jazz, Hyperdub, Tempa, Casual and more. Her lyrics, a unique commentary on contemporary London life, place her at the cutting-edge of UK music today. As part of the fast expanding global family of Dubstep.

Not just a genre-defining producer and not just a next-decade new-urban vocalist but both of them together performing their own tunes. This isn't just heavy weight its BASS WEIGHT!

Pauly can i nominate Livewire for a support for this gig? Ez was the first to get me on to this guy and has been slamming this style in his own surrounds for some time now. Other than that, this should be a MAD gig!

yeah, the bug is insane live. bring earplugs though, dude loves to devastate your eardrums with ear-destroying highs on the effects. made the mistake of leaving 'em at home and couldn't spend much time on the floor, carnage.

I'd nominate any of the croaking lizard guys as supports myself :p

This is going to be big, hope Kevin will dish out a dash of apocalyptic dancehall on top of the dubstep stuff.
But who cares really its the BUG! :blob6:

right
so you own the scene or something? or have some sort of judicial power over it?
which scene do you refer to? i've only been part of the brisbane punk rock band scene, most scenes are things people talk about to try and sound like they belong to something they're insecure about.
anyway - either I don't quite get your sarcasm or you're a tough guy who has no place in my thoughts nor would I waste more on

Hey the supports thing is totally cool guys, get excited get in touch. It's cool that a guy with such a diverse take on music can draw music lovers from all realms out of the wood work.

Livewire is my number 1 pick for any situation!!

Hey I've lost my cellphone and all its numbers, i have the same number again but i have absolutely NOONES numbers so it looks like I'LL be the ONLY support!!

So text me bitches!!

I'm not in charge of the bookings but i can definately forward suggestions.

Can someone please get me Livewires number or get him to text me??

Lot to appreciate from his catalogue

Pressure blew my mind when it came out, opening ears to a new realm. Certainly hope he represents some of his razor x styles.

If people feel like a taste of this sort of toxic dancehall/raggacore/junglism crossover you might enjoy these older mixes from the Sock Monster, croakinglizard: Avenge of Sock Monster, and Baba Yaga's Teeth.

http://www.croakinglizard.com/sock_monster/

Both featuring The Bug as well as other tuff ragga bangers. Pity theres not much of it made these days!

As for Warrior Queen! MADNESS!

Of course his style these days has digressed a bit but his production is top notch. Big ups to all involved bringing him out.
