Completely understandable though.
If you live near the gardens... pretty much every weekend in Summer some munters are having a bash there... you'd get very fed up with that shit every-bloody-weekend.

The one time I actually hung about and played some jungle/d&b there a couple of years ago... the guy came over (cause we had a fairly fat lil system).. and explained that his house, for some reason resonates with the specific bass sounds.
Poor bastard... I told him to try opening and shutting certain doors or windows to try and find a way to disturb the resonance.

I think the rule of thumb of audio limits during the day is if the complainant has to raise their voices to be heard in conversation at their house.

Personally I'm f^&ked off with this city and all its bylaws. Ok its a nice city to live in and I have a better life style here compared to where I originate from, but really you can't do shit here. The local scene, especially non commercial music scenes are only half represented and have no room to grow due to serious lack of venue space where we can play music at a substantial volume and all night if we choose.

apart from a small venue in the city we (heartical HiFi) have no where to play and As well as Dub and Reggae music, we want to continue to support the development of other bass music genres such as dubstep and DnB etc but simply cant find a venue we can take our soundsystem into and forward the music proper instead of playing it on some half arsed house PA. We dont want this small club to be the limit of what we've set out to achieve. Sometimes I feel Ive settled in the wrong country. rant rant winge winge Melbourne is shit.

d, the same (state) standards for music noise from pubs have been in place since 1989 - a club can build for big systems but most dont think too. although we have a major problem of residents being built next door to existing venues, i blame the venues as much for not thinking about noise control at all when setting up. its not like there aren't any with money to splash around

Subbass has a large (ish) bass rig that they blasted from 8pm on a saturday night until about 10am Sunday..... the cops came at 11:30 and said "as long as there's not trouble or complaints it's fine".... "but if we have to come back....." They didn't come back...

had one there the week after subbass with a standard jbl eon system + 3 subs (one double 12).

prob started too early during the day cos we had a council guy come round saying they'd had a resident complain he couldn't hear his channel 7 news or some shit. he said stuff like 'this is where these kind of things should be, there's no sign saying you can't play music, there should be facilities like toilets etc etc..'

so he seemed like a decent bloke, just requested we turn the system around to face victoria st instead of the yarra (resident somewhere on the other side, we had been facing it north but the bass mustve reached walmer street or something). but he also requested we 'didn't go all night like the guys the week before as thats what the resident was worried about'.

so someone stupidly said 'yeah we'll probably only go til midnight'. councillor took his word for it, and took my mates name/number. we thought 'meh, sif we'll finish that early stuff it' but the dude called up later and threatened a court order etc if we didn't... my mate would've copped a $500 fine no worries, but more worried about his system getting taken away, or something of the $60k variety mentioned above


in short: yeah its fine as long as no residents complain (if we had started later at night rather than during the day sure council wouldn't have come down, but the cops wouldve), but you'd probably have to do soundchecks from diff streets to be sure of it. cunts.
