Just a little education to teach them youth about what Heartical HiFI's Basement Sessions is all about.

DUB CLUB MELBOURNE PRESENTS BASEMENT SESSIONS:
Basement Sessions is a monthly event with a difference, being Melbourne’s only regular club night 100% dedicated to dubwise music and classic reggae. Unlike other reggae themed nights that only promote a line up of DJ's Basement Sessions keeps it real, forwarding the music in the true tradition and focusing on developing a soundsystem culture in Melbourne.
Basement Sessions is held at the Night Owl Bar- an old underground bank vault in the city now converted into a music venue without sound restrictions, the dance usually happens every third Friday of the month, where people from all backgrounds enjoy uplifting music with a positive vibe. Basement Sessions is hosted by Heartical HiFi Outernational and is absolutely essential for all lovers of reggae and dub music with serious bass.

SOUNDSYSTEM CULTURE:
‘Soundsystem’ is the traditional medium through which reggae and all its sub genres such as dub, roots and dancehall etc is presented. The term refers to not only the machine itself with its set of speaker stacks and equipment, but also to the crew where each member plays a role in the running of the 'sound'. Often the sound system is custom built, giving each individual set its own unique character. Often two or more sounds will meet and play off each other in a competition known as a soundclash. The concept dates back to the early 1950’s in the ghettos of Kingston, Jamaica, from where it was brought to the UK and other countries by Caribbean migrants. Communities developed around their local soundsystems and each would have its own loyal following rather like a football club. The dances were crucial in lifting the spirits of the Caribbean exiles, helping them to forget their hardships - something that reggae and soundsystem culture now does worldwide, regardless of nationality. As music constantly evolves, the soundsystem is the foundation that resonates through many sub genres of modern progressive music we know today.

For various reasons and compared to other countries around the world Soundsystem culture is a little late in reaching Australia but never too late. A soundsystem is something that not everyone or anybody can build, it takes a lot of knowledge, skill, blood sweat and tears and considering all that goes into it, including collecting the music to play, it all takes many years to achieve making every individual sound something that is very unique and special.

Maximum respect to all the soundman in Australia who continue to work hard in doing things properly so that our scene can be on par with the rest of the world, You know who you are.

...and bless up all the fans who support it.
