Hmmmm. Heading to Brisbane next weekend to catch a gig on the Saturday night. Never seen much more than the inside of the airport. Are there any Golden Orb Weavers around at this time of year??

we get a St Andrew Cross around home in Coogee that get to a decent size (nothing bird eating size though) that look similar to Golden Orb.

They spin amazing webs.

Yeah! How good! I love the stabilimentum in the center of their webs. A good friend did some research on the reasons for them and it turns out that its function is to confuse praying mantids (one of their biggest predators).

:)

Spiders are awesome.

^ I walked into the bottom half of a web on the way to a party one night.

I Freaked out and looked back and he was re organising him self on the top half and I was wearing the other half of his web.

he must have spun quicklythat evening as the web was between a tree & a fence across the footpath at about head height.

either he was confused or was planning on trapping a human.

bloody hell that's INSANE

i get awesome orb weavers in my backyard, they start appearing when the weather gets a bit warmer.......never saw one until a couple of years ago, when they started building a freeway through what used to be parkland next to my backyard ;-)........since then i've also seen some spectacular birdlife and even a gecko

i thought the ones i'd seen were big, but that's just ridiculous C.I.A

Heh heh heh. All the ones that spin the big webs are female. If you look around the edge of the web, you will probably be able to locate the male/s. They are about 0.5 cm big and have what look like boxing gloves on their front legs... these are for jizzing on and slamming into his bitches jaxie when she comes into her final moult. He has to do a runner after that cos after she loses her virginity she becomes a mega-bitch and will try to eat any boys hanging around wanting to pound her wet hole a second time.

I walked through an orb web whilst drunk on a golf course on the gold coast at about 3am.... not a pleasant experience. I went into the toilet block, mainly to remove sticky web from my clothing. you can imagine my surprise when I turned the light on only to see this fuck off massive spider on my shoulder in the mirror... I FREAKED out bad and basically took all my clothes off and shook them all out vigorously before attemping to re-robe myself.

I'm not even that scared of spiders really.. but those things are pretty alarming.

that scared me just reading that, fuckin hell! i don't mind spiders as long as they are not near me.

QLD ones were the bomb though cos they were massive and lazy, wouldn't move an inch to bother you. Melbourne ones are crazy and run around far too much for my liking sometimes.
