Current music marketing methods - your opinions.
Re: Current music marketing methods - your opinions.
Nice one Bo. I do also believe the more you give away the more you push yourself forward, but it still can be hard sometimes!
and yep I made the vid for Freaky Beats.

I'm impressed by YouTube vids & Im a big fan of the billboard advertisements the Bba guys put up.
The only thing that annoys me about Facebook are the status updates that include long winded Dj profiles for all the Djs playing, they take too long to scroll past & that's what the event pages are for.

I'm always a fan of A0 posters.
I gotta say, for myself this site & Facebook is where I look to see what's going on.

Re: Current music marketing methods - your opinions.
agree about he long winded Dj profiles on Facebook, its kinda dumb how they are in the 'information about event' but so when you post it, they all come up and clog your news feed.
one way around that is to make the event, then just post a link to it with a sentence about the event instead...

Re: Current music marketing methods - your opinions.
Videos are good for record labels and stuff. We have one on youtube of our gig somewhere. It wouldn't win an emmy but for the people we are attempting to target we think its viable. We don't make an effort to show it to people on Facebook and crap because we are a small gig and so our attendee's are via word of mouth, but its there incase people outside want to see. I think if you run a show in Melbourne and are going to spend money on a video though you are crazy unless you are as big as Future entertainment and can afford to bring out people like Tiesto and so forth. If you're just a small local gig then present yourself for what you are, get your own creative juices flowing and make the thing yourself. What you use at home isn't much different to what a professional can use and at the end of the day a good builder never blames his tools.
From what I've seen, people seem to be responding really well to long essay's in event write ups. Dj profiles no, thats just silly. But the huge weird write ups, from the last two or three gigs I've looked at done by people we work with who do their own thing they seem to work well and get a great response.

Holy crap this thread delivers!
It's kind of like the star wars trilogy,
The first one (page) was a bit boring and set up the scene
The second one kind of got deep and philosophical
And the third one was all action and monsters!!!!

Re: Current music marketing methods - your opinions.
Keeping an internet post interesting is a marketting technique in itself.
Actually, I think it's probably the best way to utalise the internet for that. Because in that situation when you are showcasing your beliefs and thoughts as a human being and not as a Dj or promoter people can see what you have written, judge you on the character of your words and decide whether or not the atmosphere you offer through that character and at the party is an atmosphere they want to be surrounded in.

I say the same things on here as I would say to anyone in person tbh. I have nothing to hide, and for the most part, this thread has been quite constructive and had some really good responses from people I respect a lot. however there has been a lot of drivel thats been unessecary and going over n over the same shit, as threads tend to do hahahalpeake wrote:lol this forum makes me sick sometimes... if some of you people spoke the way you do online to someone's face you'd get your head kicked in. it has served its purpose and confirmed a lot of the things i was already thinking --- so mods, feel free to delete or lock it now!

Re: Current music marketing methods - your opinions.
turn to page 85 of inpress today......
"dont believe people's claims, trust an audited circulation"
then a list of all publications under the 3Dworld/drum media, SPA titles.
"Why wouldn't you cab audit all of your titles??"
now im sorry, but this is getting ridiculous. A while ago Beat ran a full page ad that said something like "new format, all colour, all in one place" etc when 3Dworld and Inpress did the split. I see it as Beat touting what they are doing good at, perhaps drawing attention to the fact that they are different to Inpress, but today's is Inpress having a nice passive aggressive dig at Beat.
tbh, Inpress for the first time in 6 years, is getting me offside with this crap. Beat says its Cab Audited on the front of each issue.
So i ask, WTF are inpress on about? Also, does the average person reading even KNOW what Cab audited means? or are they just pulling their own dicks to feel better about the fact that a number of advertisers have left since the split?
Is this becoming like the political ads in the states (and sort of here) where opposing forces slag each other off??
This is disgusting imho. Tempted to fuck them off for shitty sportmanship & service.
discuss.

What is a CAB Print Media Audit >>>
A CAB audit verifies the average distribution of a publication in a defined audit period. Every copy of every issue
published within the defined six or twelve-month period is verified to produce the Average Net Distribution of an
Issue. This independent audit gives credibility to the publications distribution and equally important,
accountability for your advertising spend.
A reliable Standard
The CAB audit is conducted using Standards defined by the industry, delivering comparability of data and
accountability for media spend. CAB’s non-profit, independent association status provides the forum for media
buyers and advertisers to agree the standards by which media is measured.

mhm i don't care for beat anymore, it used to be the one i like.
beat is still pretty shit, but its better than inpress.
also postering in city of melbourne and the city of yarra seems pointless nowadays.
