Re: Is anyone here into Trance at all?
goog thread. yeah I really like some of it.
was into a lot of the early R&S, Eye Q, Harthouse and Rising High records in the 90s. Trance and techno were often indistinguishable in those days I guess.
Was a massive Orbital, Eat Static and Juno Reactor fan, and I used to go and party to hear DJs like Jam and Spoon, Sven Vath and Oliver Lieb.
I dont listen so much anymore although I still rate some psy-trance artists like Spongle and Astrix, its fun to dance to.
Of course it does fascinate me that Trance still outsells most other forms of dance music, dwarfing drum and bass and dubstep and breaks sales.
It seems that the more urban, non-progressive and less linear styles of music dont have a very long shelf life and tend to be victims of their own success.
Trance still manages, 20 years after it was born, to maintain a really healthy and vibrant underground following.

trance survives so well because of all the royalties it makes from compilation CD's sold to gyms and guys who drive their cars down chapel street on saturday night.

LIke some old trance from the the 90's. But most of the stuff I have heard since seems to suck ass...
P.S I love banging dark psy trance on a big system though...

That's about the extent of my liking for it. Trance is just music made for people to rush on pills.phonetics wrote:

I'm really liking all the new retro trance dubstep thats about. I eat up that shit like candy.
Things like Magnetic Man and Skream are making Dubstep accessible to kids like me who aren't interested in illegal raves and the underground.

Re: Is anyone here into Trance at all?
Psy trance on big systems is great. But even Psy has changed heaps. From a production angle I still think Trance and House are the hardest to make. Particular to the industry standard they are at now. Not so much from a musical perspective more a quality of production perspective. I still like a bit of grit to how things sound.
I'm a Techno head at heart so for me, to hear a Tech Trance/ Techno & Trance set is my favourite. Too much of anything though fucking sucks. But I'm glad Trance has become commercialised and House etc. It sucks for Djs because now everyone is a Dj, but for those who were there and put in the hard yards at the start, well its finally working out for them and they deserve their success.

I think its more the delivery of the product. Trance is a big sound for big crowds. House music in a big stadium with a Dj on a stage with lights and shit behind him is pretty, crap. But do it for trance and it works, there for you need the crowds, if you get them its more people you are reaching thus, you are commercialising the product. Its not a bad thing.

Come now, if you can't understand what I wrote then really all I can do is give you a lollypop and introduce you to the driver of the 'blue' bus. This one is for the "special" kids
Tiesto played the Olympics. That counts for something. But thats the great thing about Trance. Its the mid way genre everyone can enjoy. House also, but on a smaller room size. Tiesto's early stuff, under a few different names he used is actually REALLY good. Classics stuff.
Because of that, I think Tiesto actually deserves all the success he has. He deserved that gig at the Olympics.
Mauro Picotto is really good at Techno etc. I remember I had a pass to meet him at that particular Two Tribes but something happend, I had to leave and gave it to some mates and they used it to meet him and Green Velvet and stuff.

Ok maybe everyone but you 2.. But I mean come on. You wrote 'loltown'. ... "LOL TOWN" Come on man. Do you understand the implications here? I'm going to leave you to ponder that for a bit
Different styles of music make us feel different things, Trance (In my beleif), it's melodies aren't too far seperated from traditional classical music. People can hear the "untz untz untz" but they can also hear a level of arrangement that they can respond to. House music also. Its not too far seperated from say, Funk or Jazz or Disco and so people can hear something that isn't too strange.
Everything has its good and bad.

Re: Is anyone here into Trance at all?
Above and Beyond, Max Graham, Yoshitoshi stuff, etc.. melodic.. not toooo cheesy.
Tsuyoshi's stuff is purty good. I think he is out soon. Wonder if he will have his manga girls passing him his vinyl to play..
But from a live point of view, the trance gigs I have been to have been hilarious, more for the crowds..Uplifting because there is 50 million peeps around you, and a lot of them don't know which way the stage is, psy stuff for some really intense feral action etc..
It's all good fun..
It don't compare to D+B though.. I am pretty ruined on a lotta music genres in that respect due to the rolling beats of the D+B..
Sigh..

Sameo: lol yes, this thread is me My 2 counterparts were too busy this month to be involved on this forum and ITM so I had to pick up the passwords and do the whole, 'participation' thing for the sake of networking. But comeon. As if I could resist asking the kings of purism if they like of all things TRANCE! Of course it was going to generate responses. Thats what I do in everything I do. I get responses from people You know that. By the way, I actually think I met you once many, many many many years ago.

Re: Is anyone here into Trance at all?
used to like a bit of boshin hardhousey stuff which is prettymuch trance (tidytrax - BK etc)
got real repetitive and boring real fast tho
BOSH! mixed by Eddi Halliwell that was free with mixmag, circa2002, is a pretty sweet mixcd still top notch cheese.
and like deviant mentioned; mauro picotto got skillz. also marco v used to. alphazone pretty siiik too
there were lots of important/epic old trx by brilliant producers too
like BT; gone onto lots of different + awesome stuff since...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfG-GSwUhSU
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYfiGNDt-xA
still, thing thats still good about trance as a whole is some of the synthwork the scope it leaves for experimenting. a lead/melody = alot more room to sculpt sounds than beat/bass music; in a way lots of great IDM/ambient/triphop etc also owes a lot to trance.. soundscapes
yes most modern/commercial trance is utter shite, but there's still some good stuff (ie/ "neo"-trance)
i also enjoy some psy, really diggin psybreaks stuff of late too (hedflux, fartooloud andy faze, luqas, blazer, many more...)
