nah wiley played for halfa and was on the main stage so got stuck with a techno crowd jammed in from the last performer. Caspas levels were fine as far as i could tell considering most of the acts were techno styles and full treble. too much bass might have made people huck. the crowd was going nuts for caspa, proper rave style in a shed! MC azlan was DOPE. awesome to see how far melb dubstep has moved. i'm sure the young main stream muzzas & metro sexuals screaming all the lyrics with hands in the air would have pissed off any true dubsteper... whatever. i think it was brilliant and had an awesome time. having fun is only a problem when u don't know how... jeff mills dropped some oldschool tunes, bit of dave clark & schumacher... and my absolute highlight was infected mushrooms take on foo fighters pretender. had a fucking ball and yeah it was a total zoo. there was so much too see in such a short time and sooo many people... some mega hotties tho and a whole lotta boobies hehe woop

stupid elitist attitude tbh....
oh noes, people are starting to like my niche underground genre..... I better stop liking it now.
music is music, it still sounds the same regardless of how many or what type of people like it, or what festivals it get's played at.

i think its better when anything 'underground' goes big, more tunes, more challenge, more fans, more of it played at shopping malls rather than crap pop.

Re: Stereosonic
dusbtep sold out a long time ago anyway
Re: Stereosonic
i dunno... there is something good about music staying 'underground'... well from the passionate punters point of view... with less popularity, money will have less influence on music and artistic integrity... this is not always the case but when a genre gets bigger, in general the $$$ influences the sound and imo, for the worse
obviously is better for the artists when it gains popularity... and i think there are pros and cons for both sides

also the tracklist is fucking awful: http://www.inthemix.com.au/news/aust/48 ... do_dubstep
also also, if nine million people liked the same music i do, that'd be rad. but midrange tearout is (almost without exception) complete shit which i didn't like before it was popular and don't like now ... do i have to like it just because that's what people say dubstep is now?

Re: Stereosonic
I would imagine the fact that dubstep has been appropriated by bazillions of kids with no interest in its roots is what really annoys the old skoolers.

Yeah I know people who have told me exactly that, but personally I try to appreciate music for how it actually affects me rather than any historical lineage it may have.youthful_implants wrote:I would imagine the fact that dubstep has been appropriated by bazillions of kids with no interest in its roots is what really annoys the old skoolers.

It's still a catchy little ditty, but I'd be lying if I said my opinion of it wasn't somewhat tainted

Re: Stereosonic
All you are really saying is that your opinion of the song was influenced by the content of it, which you had failed to properly understand up until that point.
My argument is that the content of a piece of music is more important than whether some producer I may not have heard of was producing dubstep way back in 2000.

Re: Stereosonic
lol the lineage is important to some people though obviously, as it shapes what the music means to them.
the mutation of music is a wonderful thing except when it stops being something you like anymore.
I remember when tech step drum n bass disappeared up its own arse at the end of the 90s when a lot of producers seemed to be making music as obscure and abstract as possible (Dom and Roland, Stakka and Skynet, Aquasky, Metalheadz), some of it you could call art, a lot of it also killed dancefloors and seemed to move away from the original dancehall flavours of the sound.
There was a a lot of music made in that period with sonically interesting palettes that were seriously lacking in groove,
You could argue sonically that tearout dubstep has a lot of the same elements as tech step did at the end of the 90s, but you couldn't say it was killing dancefloors because people seem to love it.
