Tobacco-Stained Mountain Goat (novel) out in 2011

Hey mates,

There's probably a separate thread somewhere here to stick this update, but in the meantime I'm putting this here in case anyone's interested since my novel Tobacco-Stained Mountain Goat (http://www.anothersky.org/2010/12/) will be published, through US label Another Sky Press, at the end of January 2011.

It's a bit of a cut-up fusion of genres. My editor (Kristopher Young, who penned Click), when pressed, put it thus:

"The book itself is sort of... well, indescribable, really - noirish, subtly sci-fi, hard-boiled, futuristic; Blade Runner with a touch of Sam Spade, a smattering of Orson Welles circa Touch of Evil, or The Third Man. And a shot of bourbon."

Anyway, I'd like to believe that's what we've at least partly achieved...

While we're still in the edit on the book (mostly cleaning up and organizing the cover artwork), we have a sneak preview of the original, unedited first two chapters here, plus you can pre-order the beastie if the insane compulsion grabs you - it's retailing at only $4.50 plus postage. Cheap is good:

Anyway, I'm obviously over the moon about publication of the bugger in the new year and hope you have time or inclination to check it out. If you do find the time to potter over something a little different... read away. Heh-heh.

I wish I was up to the editing stage, I've got 3 boxes of manuscripts and a rough plot outline.

Re: how many copies are being printed in the first run, bloody good question - I'm not sure exactly what specs they're running with yet.

And Blaxter, keep at it - I've got about another six unfinished manuscripts under my bed as well!!

I came up with a whole new idea for a plot, and will run with that for now just cause its fresh and I keep reading how the most important thing for a writer to do is consistently write.
Watched "Born Into it" again today, the man was prolific.

...and just got an email from my publishers in the U.S. that the novel is back from the printing press!!

I haven't got my own copy of TSMG yet (man, I'm I dying to hold that little bugger), but anyone at all vaguely interested can order the thing online right here - and thereby support Another Sky Press, the coolest cats on the planet!!!

On ya, B!!! Really chuffed that you bought it!! ...and honest opinion anytime (thick skin activated!).

BTW, sorry about the cost. The publisher is retailing 'em for the cost price (US$4.95), as that's their ethic - and I love that - but the bloody postage from America to Australia (and Japan) ends up being more than the cost of the book. Ouch.

well i would hope that if i ever got published my peers and community would buy/read and give me honest critique of my stuff too, so i have to andrez! (but i bet ill like it

)

half the books i buy online are cheap as hell, then the postage makes them around the same price as in shops.
but tbh, when you are hard pressed for time like I am, it's either put off buying what you want again and again or its one click and it arrives on your doorstep! i LOVE books waiting on the porch for me when i get home!

I tend to do the same thing, though 99% of the books I get are from overseas so I can get 'em in English, so sometimes the postage is a killer (to Japan)... but you're right. Just gotta do it. And there IS nothing better than finding that parcel in the post!!
