Re: The Photo Thread (Post yours here)
I have added a page to facebook for my website Hold Your Colour Photography.
Jump on and click "Like" to get updates on what I am up to with my photography, and my latest pics. I am hoping to get to some markets this year (prob mid to later in the year), and next year I am hoping to plan another exhibition. Other plans in the making as well.
http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/Hol ... hotography
And if you want to check out my usual site -
http://www.holdyourcolour.com.au/
Which I will update soon with some shots I took down at the beach over the new year with my old Voigtlander.
Feel free to forward on

Re: The Photo Thread (Post yours here)
ok you need a long thin panoramic shot, which could be a whole 360 if you thought about it in advance. I actually didn't make a panorama for these I simply cropped a regular photo so it was long and thin and then mirrored it so it was double length.
however if you want to do it properly make the panorama first by shooting 3 photos which overlap from left to right
but whether you have 3 shots or 23 doesn't really matter, photoshop will stitch them together for you providing they overlap a bit.
so you go to file>automate>photomerge
then pick whatever sounds good. for a normal panorama 'auto' works fine. load the 3 images into it from left to right and hit ok. depending on the light in each pic you may want to choose vignette removal and geometric distortion correction will attempt to straighten out any perspective issues in the overlap but its a bit temperamental.
anyway that will make your panorama.
then flatten it. and create a square image from that so go to image>image size and make the height the same as the width. this will look very weird and stretched until the next step.
then go to filter>distort>polar coordinates and hit ok. bear in mind that if you want a planet type effect (like on mine) you need to turn your square image 180 degrees before this step otherwise you will end up with a tunnel (opposite effect)
phew I think thats it.

that sounds wicked! thanks for the step by step!
do you think using a wide angle lens shot would work the same? i have a few in mind that might work as well

Re: The Photo Thread (Post yours here)
yeah sure I reckon just bear in mind for it to work well the original shot is better thin and wide if you're not going to use a panorama specifically if you catch my drift.Lizkins wrote:that sounds wicked! thanks for the step by step!

Re: The Photo Thread (Post yours here)
they look rad! you know if you mirrored the image before using the effect the top one and the bottom one would be seamlessly wrapped around.

Re: The Photo Thread (Post yours here)
i tried that, but just as you said it, i get what you mean, so mirror with ends reverted outwards so both ends are the same yeah in terms of the sky? cos that is the dead giveaway. will give it a bash and see what i get
