BEATS WORKING @ BROWN ALLEY // SAT JULY 23RD // FREE ENTRY!!

Post by obliveus »

What a welcome back to Brown Alley last month was. With over 350 people sorting themselves out to the sounds of breakbeat and drum’n’bass, it was a perfect night in all definitions of the word. It seems the Melbourne massive have spoken and they’ve said, “FREE PARTY IS GOOD”!

Yes, folks. If you haven’t heard yet, Melbourne’s good time, party machine is back to being a FREE party again and are we ever happy that we don’t have to charge ya’ll anymore. Never in it for the cash from the word go, we didn’t like having to charge people to come to their own party, so gone is the door charge. But not the BW VIBE, as was evident last month.

July sees us back to the Alley of Brown yet again with another 2 rooms of all that is broken. To make the evening even more of a top night to come, it’s the big, fat American’s birthday. Yes, Obliveus will be turning 31 on the evening, so make sure to come down and wish him well.

Main room shenanigans will boast the always “reliable” Ben Stacey to open up the show, followed by the King Scotrod with his trusty mouthpiece, Direkt. Also known as the Enforcers, these two blew the place apart last month with a vocal, turntable, effects processor attack rivaled by no one. You really have to see what these two do to fully appreciate the spectacle. They really are the real deal and it’s only a matter of time before the rest of the scene finally takes notice.

On next will be the birthday boy himself, OB1 on the wheels of steel. He’ll be playing stuff that’s so new, it hasn’t even been written yet. His skills on the decks are so unbelievable, he lets other people play the records while he directs. In fact, he might not even turn up on the night and just let his legend speak for itself. He's so good that his sets can't even be heard by normal ears; you must be endowed with listening powers from high up to fully grasp its greatness. Now, if any of that was taken seriously, you really do need to come to a Bee Dub to iron out your wires.

Closing the night will be Mr. Electrobreak himself, Hans-DC. His opening set at the last BW had everyone in the place singing along to childhood favorites and his last closing set had us open for almost an hour past closing because nobody wanted to leave, so make sure you’re here for this one. His tastes are beyond eclectic, but one thing is always for sure, the man can play!

Again the side room will be open with the bad boys from Prime Mover dropping massive bombs from the realm of drum’n’bass. This month 2 guests have been brought in to help rinse the system with Cliffery and Cubist joining Dopebeat, Fickuss and MC’s Wasp and Dr. Sponk. We’ve been assured that the sound problems from last month in the side room will be rectified, so all should be right.

Get yourself down to Melbourne’s ONLY free monthly party and see what lies beyond the hype! You wont be disappointed.

Beats Working @ Brown Alley (Corner of King & Lonsdale, City). 10PM-5AM. FREE ENTRY. For more information, go to: http://www.beatsworking.com.au

Yah! I got a new policy of only attending free gigs now after spending $50+ on cab fares this weekend. Damn, how am I ever gonna afford a new set-up if I keep that up? Plus to top it off, got back from Sydney last weekend & found out that my Kaoss pad is playing up from the gig the week B4 :(
So I now declare to be a major tite-arse with my money, relying solely on the generosity of OB1's drink-cards & rides home. hehe
Or maybe I should just go straight-edge... Nah, that'll never happen

We'd be more than happy to just open the door for upstairs. No doorbitch anyways. I think they might not like that downstairs, due to the people that'd probably be walking down there that got in for FREE upstairs. Maybe if they have someone checking stamps, tickets, etc. I'll call the powers that be and see if this can be sorted... Good call!

Ahhhh - yes, itchy scrote man Vs Juggernaut

I know that White ninja would kick both of their arses.

And lets not discount Gonad Man from the equation either!

Itchy Scrote Man's only downfall is his continual scratching of the scrotal area... it often distracts and incapacitates him. White Ninja definately has the goods over Gonad Man, but I've been hearing great things about 'Mexican Muchacho' - he's pretty fuckin' crazy by all accounts....

Good on FREE!

Why aren't more people booking FREE???

Always a crowd pleaser if you ask me. But nobody usually does. I'm so lonely...

On a completely different note, I just got an absolutely superb JB's repress. So funky that Little Evil might actually like it.

You know how he loves his funk re-issues. Cant get him to stop playin the damn things at Gimme.

The last BW was a wicked night, and a great way to celebrate the end of exams and a friends 21st. must admit it started slow, but definetly picked up nicely.
Looking forward to the next one for sure. but when are you guys gonna put good ol Scotty Feigan on the lineup !???

It's be nice to have Feigan on the bill indeed... but we don't really do guest slots @ BW.... Hence the same ol' lineup that's been rockin' the set every month for nigh on 3.5 years...

Dude, didn't you have to pass some form of English exam to get your PR?

If you want, I can sit you in a class with all my ESL students and teach you some "gooder" English.

In regards to what you're saying though, it's not that Feigan costs too much, it's that we cant fit his extremely massive noggin through the doors. His head diameter must be pushing 5 feet atleast.

I think we're pushing the envelope in terms of the sexual discussion that they allow on this forum though, so let's change the subject to something more intellectual. Something we can break down and disect in a quest to see where our faithful stand on the ideological spectrum of things. So...

You know how to get ya good mate Scotrod to bump up a thread don't you?
I don't think it's Ryan's kid. Or if it is, the mother doesn't know. Did you notice that the mum said "you look more and more like your father each day" with a smile on her face?
That's not the sort of thing a grandmother says when the bloke who got her daughter up the duff has jumped ship to a rich neighbourhood. By the way the scene was shot, I reckon there was another guy in the room, possibly the father, and we'll find out who it is next week.

RE: OC and Ryan's pregnant ex...

The father has to be Eddie (the guy who got in a punch-up with Ryan last season, looks like one of the Backdoor Boys and was his ex's "almost" husband). If not, then Ryan's ex was into some group situations when she was hogging the pool house while Ryan was still in his hissy over Marissa.

Has anyone had a thought about who kills Caleb at the end of this season?

Oops, I hope my up to date info from the states hasn't let anything out.
