^^^This is what i think was going through the violinists heads.
(1st Violin section - back row)
Male Violinist: "Geez this piece is hard to play..."
Female vioinist: "Yeah its a bitch, i haven't even practised, you?"
Male violinist: "Nah not really, by the way, what the fuck is a dude with decks and laptop doing next us?"
Female violinist: "What are 'decks'?"

I can seriously not believe this is going to be on the same night as Krush
I think because I have seen Krush before I will go to Spooky, that way I will not have any chance of ruining the Krush myth, and also I own my Spooky albums that Krush albums, if that is anything to go buy.
In fact I dont think it was that hard a decision.

you seen either of them before?
I know that the Krush gig will always stand out in my mind, and i don't want to damage that memory if this tour does not live up to it...
that and Spooky can be so leftfield i'm intrigued to see what he does.
the Spooky gig is sure to bring something new to the table.
"spooky is a laboratory where the audio track to the futuree is being field tested. colloborations include shadow, sonic youth (thurston more), kool kieth, killa priest, yoko ono, amon tobin, mad professor."

i suppose this release makes more sense when you consider it in terms of the book. http://www.rhythmscience.com/
to me tho it is not that far off listening to a dope on plastic cd, only way more cut up and acknowledging past works. thats regarded as dance, so i dont see why this isnt when Spooky is considered a hip hop artist.

Don't want to seem defensive about my response cause I have been talking this up, but I do quite enjoy reading the "mumbo jumbo" in the same way others may enjoy poetry or spoken word pieces etc.
There is method to much of his madness.
Many might cliam my own style of writting to be not too far off that mark.
I would find it hard to define Spooky as stricty hip hop too, "riddim warefare" may be close, but it only one aspect of his work really.

respect to the guy for taking DJing to another context ... but for me personally I don't get where he's coming from.
too abstract to really grasp ... unlike Coldcut, what Spooky does technically isn't very difficult. And playing double bass whilst trainwrecking mixes isn't redefining a craft. I've got Riddim Warfare and I saw him last time (both shows) he came out ... i guess it goes over my head. (prob mainly due to a lack of sirens, basslines and hip hop one liners )

I get a certain feeling from his work, both over the catalogue of his stuff I have, and his writting (havnt read the book yet only articles etc) that he is capturing a general concept that has been thrown around a lot recently. The discourse that relates to both the DJ and the musician becoming less original and how the interaction between the finished product and the source is interpreted by the "veiwer" or subject. The recent rise in inclussions of various new elements in "shows" and production and the entire art of "sampology" has reached a stage where it is a new sugject matter in itself, and I think what Spooky does is capture that in both his work and his music and gives it some kind of defining base.
I don't know what his live performances or his DJ sets are like, and I am hoping for the best (but trainwrecking is never good), but I do get get into the discourse of this topic. Sometimes I just like to enjoy what I listen too because it sounds good, but I also enjoy the abstract and the sensation of capturing the essense of movements, not just conformative theoritical jargen, but also through the artforms themselves. I dig it.

went on Thursday, and heard him talk. Very interesting, however the other people there got on my nerves a bit. What he spoke about was interesting, however his displays were weak.
His next project with Chuck-D sounds intersting.
As for his Dj skills. I am not sure why someone would use technology they are obviously not comfortable with, unless they are decieving themselves. He was using 1000's i think, but he did not use them very well, his scratching was ok, but over all i was dispointed with his mixing, sampling and use of the technology.
I am glad i went to see Krush.
