moved to good ole QLD and Gold Coast when i was about 8 months old or something, and moved back when i was 7 years old. Lived in about 10 different places including a garage in Logan Holme, or was it Bogan Holme Nat? All class
I miss Camphill mostly - hilly suburb where my mums partner lived. He had two sons who taught me to skate board at the age of 5, i think Such a beautiful place.
In Birkdale i miss the mud swap river down the end of my street where i collected mud crabs and played in the huge cement tunnels - that supposedly we were not suppose to play in, opps. Kids heaven though - rats, rabbits, frogs, etc all to play with. Except the time i fell down the side of a hill into one of the tunnels and scratched half my face off, knee cap and elbow, and screamed blue murder....according to my sister
man i could keep going all day on these memories that surprisingly i can rememeber

My fave memory of growing up in QLD was going to the final game of the 1989 State of Origin series at Lang Park. I was sitting on the infamous hill amongst a rabid sea of maroon jerseys, when a couple of Cockroach (NSW) supporters walked past and opened a banner that says "QLD SUX" and then gave the finger to the collective mob. They were greeted with a furious gold hailstorm of XXXX cans that utterly floored them to the point of an ambulance being required to drag them away. It was tribalism at its most brutal...
The other fond memory was getting busted climbing the Big Pineapple, 16 years old and drunk, by the local police. Did it as a dare after climbing over the extension bridge that seperates the Bruce Highway from the Pineapple. My mates and I jumped down and ran through the pineapple fields like a bunch of freaks and disappeared into the rainforest.
Fun times
QUEENSLANDER!

Here's to Wally Lewis
For lacing on a boot
Some times he plays it rugged
Some times he plays it cute
When he's carving through the backline
Like a stradbroke Island shark
There's glue on all his fingers
He's the emperor of Lang Park
And when the blues come up here
To try and make a show
They'll go back scratching their heads
Saying which way did he go?
The next time he goes over there
to educate the poms
Perhaps he'll teach a few to sing:
[Pommy Accent] I can feel a fourex coming on
I can feel a fourex coming on
I can feel a fourex coming on.
Got the taste for it
Just can't wait for it
I can feel a fourex coming on.

Tried to find a pic of the Garden City peacock- alas!
What a institution, hanging out after school with skirts hitched up giving crap to all the private school kids.
The old 593 bus home via Garden City was OUTTA CONTROL. Every single day after assembly at school:
'Everyone travelling on the 3.14pm 593 bus to GC remain behind after assembly'
Hrm, that would be us....

I used to have an expo OZ platypus. All I remember about world expo 88 is being mesmerised by one of those machines that rolls billiard balls around.

My experience of Queensland is limited to the two months I spent playing in a rock covers band in 1998, so I'm sure there's more to it, but this is about all I remember:
Friday's was a regular gig and paid very well even if the clientele and management were vaankers.
Went to the Beat after one gig and heard some doof remixes of Kylie Minogue at around 5 am. Started falling asleep at my table until a bouncer warned me this was not a good idea. I remembered where I was and did my best to stay conscious.
Played some pub in Rockhampton, where the rugby teams happened to be passing through. I think I spotted Jim Dymock in the crowd. Played Longreach the next two nights. Another footy player (I think his name was Terry Madison or something) sang Khe Sanh with us, which I'd never played before and haven't since.
Played Mary St once, squeezed onto a tiny stage that was ready to collapse any second. Thankfully missed the men's torso contest but sadly missed the women's round.
I made good money.
Everyone was blonde.

10.15 I remember many random Expo occasions- it was the perfect alibi for going out with your mates and getting up to no good. Mums all over Bris Vegas actually believed their little darlings were visting the Canadian Pavillion and the Aquacade while they were really getting flogged on lager in the German Beer Hall or having a sly grope in the darkness near the roller coaster.
Sorry Mum, but I don't think I even saw the acclaimed USA pavillion until the final week of operation and I had a season pass- went to Expo twice a week and def every Friday night for an entire year!
Also recall (with a shudder) some festivities ending with me catching a nap in Musgrave Park and waking at sunrise when a footy got kicked my way. Hrm, totally missed my midngiht curfew. Totally did not miss the report that had been passed onto the Sth Brisbane cops.. Or the fallout that followed

dont know if I should admit I grew up in Currumbin Valley, but what the hey... it's sunny up there, not as hot as it used to be, well not as humid anyway. I went to the first australian dance music club which was an acid house club by Mark James, back @ penthouses in surfers paradise. ??? I have wonderful memories of qld, in fact when I am older and too wrinkled to be allowed into clubs, I intend to move back there and build my commune for old clubbed out junglists, who still need thier weekly fix. I mean fuck yoga, when you can brock out for spiritual balance...hahah
Brisbane was cool... lived there for 6 years. remeber 4zzz
I think I lived at that station for a while. I could go on for hours... thanks for pushing the reflective button.
Brisbane dnb is killin it at the moment... perhaps the time has finally come for us to return! hahahah, maybe not just yet
oh and dont forget Algester, [near sunnybank] lovely place that, where everyone is a cunt and so is every second word.

Ahhh, Algester, one road in, one road out. There is something in that little analogy I'm sure... Thanks for the memories. Just down the road from the Calamvale where I used my dodgy fake ID to get into Transvision Vamp when I was 16!
4ZZZ- Market Day!! So much fun. Remember coming back from O/S one year and heading down to see Pangaea and Soma Rasa, drop tabs and toboggan down the hills on beer cartons...
It's all coming back to me now...

when my band + several others went through qld on tour we did an interview thing at 4zzz! it was late-morning/early nonish and the guy was drunk. during the nights we were playing shows our guitarist got spat on twice on seperate nights. our drummer got punched. i was threatened with a beating by a group of big dudes. and a girl friend there with us got yelled at.
still. good times and lots of good dudes up there. just seemed like certain areas were dodgier than others.

New Hampshire's alright if you like fighting.
Must give some props to the developers who put together 'Forest Lake'- classy little Caroline Springs kinda joint conveniently very cheap to purchase a big fuck off house.
And why?
Because it was smack in the middle of Inala

The Juvenile Detention Centre

There was a big wall around it, Berlin stylez.
That wall was never big enough- highest rip off area for peeps nice cars they bought with money left over from big fuck off house in the worst area imaginable.

Best memory is of getting chased by a Cassowary during a rainforrest walk... lucky we were near the car, it was pecking at the fukn car window when we were inside... scared the fuck out of me, my bro and mum...
I kissed a squirrel and I liked it... taste of her acorn chapstick

Yes it can be fun from time to time. There is a few crews doin dnb: RUKUS, Junglettes, RudeBwoyz, Gen2K, Ten Pound Crew. Frosty and Fraser playin mad dubstep/grime at the moonbar. There is also alot of upcomming talented live/hybrid electronic bands/groups.
If you're in Brisbane on a Saturday you have to go to Dub Sessions at the Zoo in Fortitute Valley. Toss the Boss from 3-4pm you get to filp a coin for ANY beer or basic! An DJ NoMC has a mad stak of Dub & Hiphop. Just remember to tell them "yes I intend to dine."
I'm from Lennox Hd, near Byron. That's close enough isn't it? Best thing was that QLD didn't do daylight saving, so when it was on you could drive up to the Goldy in 15 mins, & Brizvegas in just under 2 hours. except it'd take 4 hours to get home from Brizzy.
Many missions to the Moonbar (Empire hotel) with Noodles. & Adventjah Fest. @ RNA, where I first discovered DnB via Static & Lincoln & LTJ

or if you celebrate NYE in Coolangatta, you can do it twice and have a whole hour to cross the road before you do it all again.
My parents live on the border, so there is basically two time zones in thier house. hahahahah stupid!
I am kinda hoping that the Brisbane crews book a fuck off international up there soon, so the Tearout crew can go up there for thier next tour. Come on Wrathie...

what do I miss about Brisbane?
I miss Saturday mornings going through the Brunswick St markets, then settling down at Fat Rics for a great coffee, lunch, then moving into the beers. Or meets up all my friends there on a Friday afternoon and drinking all night long before moving upstairs to try and dance on the rammed dancefloor.
The days of the Empire, when they had the pool tables downstairs and free music courtesy of some great DJs. Not a poker machine in sight!
Nights watching friends throw parties at Mantra. A weird club run by gothic looking people who loved techno and prog house and underground local producers.
Sneaking into the Treasury pub as an underager at 16 & 17 to drink beer before running to catch the last bus home on a Friday night.

Liz, I 've got no issues with the sun. It's natural and i know you need vitamin D and get it from the sun.
my post was referring to the one before mine which recommended solariums. I'm not going to get a nuked UV tan thanks to a solarium and then pay cash for the risk of getting skin cancer. I think fashion addicts who need a solarium orange tan are nuts.
