Personally I don’t care what people wear. As H said, do what you feel is you. What I have an issue with is people who do it because everyone else is. Especially if it makes them look like a 3 year old who got locked up in a costume shop for the night and then walked directly to Luna Park and took 10 rides on the Gravatron followed by a bout of cyclone winds.

Good style is good style no matter what the genre IMO.

to me its something along the lines of an article CIA posted a while back

its that thing of subcultures having a whole aesthetic, centred around at least something (e.g. music, some (quasi)-political statement) - so there is a look to identify with something else

but the hipster aesthetic is a collation of looks detached from an actual point - some sense of irony but its just a look - to me it feels like someone is aping a model/chapel st thing (as an example of another void aesthetic) but in the process forgot along the way they were actually taking the piss and ended up just being a poser - but more to the point, very cookie cutter. hipster guys remind me of the pack of girls or boofhead guys you see in teams walking around with same look (orange skin, spiked hair, same sneakers) but somehow the hipsters do this without travelling in packs

it also seems very referential to being a kid of the 80s

i feel like im being too serious

the 80s thing - glasses, something retro on necklace - kind of makes me think someone is projecting memories of being a white kid who likes hip hop but isn't cool enough to be in the gang. now they are an adult they make an ironic dig at the whole thing but doesn't realise they are broadcasting their 12 year old fantasies and secret insecurity about being dunny flushed by the gangsta kids

so i was laughing at a hipster the other day (cos now its getting warmer i seem to be noticing them a lot more) and my mate pointed out that we looked like retards in our raver gear when we were younger. i of course debated this endlessly, as the idea that we were seen like that once upon a time worried me a lot. But its true, ask the generation before us what they thought of ravers, metal heads and whatnot, same attitude. We are just all boring with how we dress now cos we are older and jaded, and like to be comfy. mmmmm comfy.
