elliot perlman - seven types of ambiguity.
can be kind of difficult to read sometimes, but well worth it.

i bought it in paris while searching for an english-language book and just picked it up at random. it had recommendations from the times, the guardian, and the ny times. turns out it's set in melbourne, written by a melburnian. haha.

I've never read a 'self help' book before. This one was given to me by a friend and it has some really interesting and practical stuff, borrowing from Buddhism and psychological practice

Recently finished "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man" by John Perkins. Couldn't put this book down and certainly gives an insight into the mess the US has made in the middle east, as well as central America. Highly Recommended.

I am currently reading the novel The Tale of Murasaki by Liza Dalby. It's set in 11th-century and life in Japan sure sounds wacky then, especially how conservative the culture is.

I'm not falling in love with this book (hlaf way through now), but it is a thought provoking read for me and enriches my interest in Japan. Very reflective.

Shantaram- what a novel.
Seven types of ambiguity- loved it. Have you read 3 dollars? Perlman's prose is so good!
Currently reading carpet wars- an insight into the middle east conflicts.
War and Peace is on my shelf to get read next...

Last night I read Puberty Blues. Always wanted to read this book. Kind of heartbreaking.

Also read half of The God Delusion (Richard Dawkins).

I know I posted about this in TTAN, but this is possibly a more apt thread.

Gread book so far. Dawkins comes from my favorite school of evolutionary biology; the blind watchmaker, Matt Ridley, Red Queen, blah blah blah. My only gripe is that he allows his personal paradigms to inject somewhat too much passion into what should be a calculated analysis of why religious dogma is tantamount to believing in faries.
I wanted to be a hero. I wanted to be the center of attention. I wanted the glory, I wanted the fame. I wanted the pretty girls to come up and say, "Hi, I see that you're good at Centipede."
