jobs are weird, now that I've found a few that are available, even though it's early days, I'm starting to get wound up in the whole decision making.
take better pay but less exciting job over one that pays less, is farther away but will probably be more interesting?
i don't know if i should take the first one i can get with reasonable pay so that i am actually employed and getting experience, and just learn from there. Or if i should sit back for a little while, see what goes through and find one that's better... the thing is i don't know what's better for me, i just need to get started :?

Take the first one but keep looking, its not easy to stay motivated to look for work when you have a job, but its a better position to be in than, looking with no job.

True dat. But you don't want to risk getting caught on seek.com at your current job which makes it hard to get new listings when thye're fresh. Catch 24.

Hello There:

I am in a situation where I need a job, that is casual, and only a few hours a week.

A tall order, I know. But I am a full time university student and it is my honours year.

I live in Aspendale (near mentone, or Southland shopping centre)

I do not own a car.

I have been a concretors labourer for 4 years and don't mind a bit of "hard slog", unfortunately it is my honours year, as I mentioned and I can only work for a few hours a week. I was working with my cousin full time concreting throughout my undergrad years, and the combination of full time work and study was difficult to manage.

I am a great essay writer, with a good grasp of English, I can also type at 120 wpm.

I am not eligible for Austudy as my partner is a full time school teacher, and I was foolish enough to tell them the truth; that we were partners etc.

I would rely to the rail network to get to work, so please take this into consideration.

Thankyou for the time spent reading this.

Luke

Good luck Luke.

I know some people who suffered the same fate at the hands of Centrewank, and they updated their information to say they were no longer partners but were willing to live with each other as roommates until the lease ran out. Worked for them

hate to tell you, but they might :? . so long as you have a spare room that you pretend to sleep in, it should be cool.

Centrelink SUCK! As if your partner's going to pay all your expenses or something

I know I've posted this before but seriously, does anyone here know peeps in magazines/newspapers in Melbourne?

I'm finally just starting to send my feelers out down there to score some work before moving but it'd be nice to have a few contacts to start with.

CV:
Award-winning (by Wednesday night hopefully) journalist with some writing flair. Hard worker. Not adverse to sucking a bit of wang when needed.

Help!

tara's best friends sister has worked for the herald scum for ages and ages.

Someone at work's mate has just scored a job with the age too, apparently they are short staffed at the moment and also desperate for sub editors. You should get onto them, or if you want i can find out this guys email address or something.

then when you get the job you can suck my wang.

question - i know it sounds simple, but it aint. I have worked in large corporations for about 7 years now and I am very used to the culture, perks and how everything functions (including having awesome working computer (disregarding that MB is not working properly for me at the mo). Twice now I have gone for jobs where there is about 8 to 10 people in an office and essential I would be the lacky (small part of job but quite sucky), but also doing really rad stuff that I want to do with great career progression.

I just really don’t know if I can transition from having worked in large corps to working in an office with only 8 other people and washing their dishes as well as doing hig-end stuff.

confused.

ps – haven’t got the job yet, but even if I don’t get it, it may come up again, so may as well nip it in the butt. Plus I said no to the first job because of this.

It's a hard one Lizkins. Last year I left a whizbang office and moved to a small fry company that was very pretty on the exterior but total crap once I got past the interview room into the guts of the company. Left the job within a month.

But then I progressed to here and I'm fucking loving it. But I notice heaps of similarities b/w this job and the crappy one. Small office, only a few people, dodgy kitchen, no windows in my office etc. But somehow, thanks to the work that makes me happy and the people that make me smile it's more than just acceptable, it's preferable. You might find the same thing...

At least in a smaller company, your efforts can be easily distinguished and there is usually more appreciation.

good luck sweetness

cheers Mixxy, i agree it does come down to the people.

Hopefully i will get to scope out the whole office when i go for second interview.

anyone else got any advice?
