A bloke has to make a living somehow. :smt003

With the price inflation on fruit and veg due to the late rains pushing the harvest back and the increasing cost of fuel to transport the goods from the farm to me its hard making ends meet, if it wasnt for my love of preforming i might have to think about hanging up the carrot so to speak
Fair enough.
Fuck me, what are you using though - monster mutant pumpkins?

I liked that thing you did with the watermelon, and the way you spat the pips out your 'youknowwhat', one by one.
Can you do that again - please?
I like the 'ting' sound they make as they hit the bucket on the other side of the room. :smt003

Inpress!

Post by Little Evil »

Sorry Lynt, don't want to start a streetpress war here - but I find Beat gets much wider distribution, and the staff are easier to deal with.
Ronnit down Beat is my homie, and always looks after the Gimme crew - and especially me because she loves my ass. :D

I find Streetpress in general to be incredibly contrived, and driven by money - as it is a business in the end anyway.

But, Beat has always been good to us, and never caused us many real hassles.
My vote is with them, but it's just a recomendation.
You'd be hard pressed to get a free add or two out of either publications.
Just go with the best price I guess, but Beat is definately my choice.

Yeah, they will.
Last year was a real ball-buster though when it came to streetpress.
I had to play them both off against eachother, and lots of shit went down until we got what we needed.
I hope it's not like that this year, and one of them supplies some freebies.

Breaks crews all uniting, as well as the Starlight Foundation is good enough reason to sacrifice a few dollars, and run some free adds IMO.
Whether it be Beat or Impress.

I hope one of them comes to the party, and gives us the non biased coverage the party deserves too.
Last year I was a bit miffed about a few things - subtle messages/grumblings in stories and stuff, from certain parties journalistic. All of it adding to mine, Eric's and Guy's headaches.
But it's all cool now. :D

So none of that shit this year I hope? Everyone is out to help out everyone else. Every DJ on the bill is as important as the next one. And pretty much everyone is on the bill this year.
It should be one of the parties of the year - for a mega important cause.
:D

Who's going to give us a free add? :D

You should run past JJJ. The disc jockeys can all see out the window.
They'd be sure to say something.

We should do a 'bang the drum' thing, except for MBU purposes.

Howdy, I still have not been contacted by any DJ's wishing to play in the Funk/Hip-Hop/Dancehall room for this event.

I currently have a 'DJ wish-list' of about 15 names that I think would be suitable, but I would prefer for willing people to contact me, rather than chase down & request the free services of said artists....

It's only early days yet, but the clock's ticking...

So, PM me if you are interested... - Respecognize!

So we're getting a donation/sponsorship of 500 MBU keytags from the co. I work for :D . Cash's Australia Pty Ltd.

This is the basic design we've come up with, They may look a bit different because they are a woven tag.

Any other ideas or stuff people think should be on there post em up.

Image

They get folded halfway, overlocked around the edge and then the ring is put through. They'll end up like the ones posted earlier in the thread.

Can either put em with the CD or sell em or give em away, or whatever.

YOU ARE THE MAN!!! Looks great. Thanks so much for that.

In other news, I just talked to the powers that be and it looks like we're going to go with Beat as our main sponsor for the event. In the end, it came down to the maximum number of people we could reach and what we came up with through discussion here on this forum and through PM's. Beat won on both counts. So there you have it.

So far, our name sponsors for the event (meaning those whose names will appear on all promotional material due to their efforts and donations) stand at: Melbourne Beats, Beat, ITM, Resident Advisor, The Scene and Cash Australia Party Ltd. If anyone else has a lead I can chase down, please PM me so I can get onto it.

Also, we are now an officially recognized, sanctioned group doing work for Starlight Foundation. We already knew that, but I had to fill out paperwork to make us legit. So you're now all part of the charity, good on ya.

BTW I've had 75% of the line-ups emailed to me for the 3 rooms...LOOKS MAD!!! Will, without a doubt, be the biggest local show of the year.

You producers, PM Cubist or Snowie about getting a track on the MBU CD. We want more!

Will keep you in the loop as it happens...

Just came into this discussion late.

Fair enough that you guys chose Beat over Inpress, we've got no problem with that. And big ups for getting the cover, that's cool!

Just wanted to note that we'll still support the event with editorial, even though we're not getting any ad spend.

I thought the ad was free anyway - all for the cause, or have I missed something?

It is a non-profit fundraising event....

Yeah, I wish. Street press need to make ad money or they dont stay afloat. I see where they're coming from. We'll just have to get that many more people through the door to hit our goal of $10,000 to donate to Starlight.

Big ups to you AJ for being so cool and understanding. Community vote went the way of Beat this year...next year, who knows?

To all the performers that will be playing or peeps donating their time, I'll have a generic invoice I'll give to you all stating that you donated your time for a charity event. Pretty sure you can use this for a tax write-off. It'll have all the details on it, etc.

OK, we need to get this 100% cover shot organised. I'll speak to Hans about getting his flatmate (photographer) to come down to Mercat so we can take this picture for the cover.

I WANT EVERYONE INVOLVED TO BE THERE!!!

Whether you're a DJ, MC, Producer, Visual Tech, Sound Tech, Graphic Designer, Door Bitch, whatever. If yer involved with the cause, be there for the pic.

SO...

What's a good day/night for everyone? I'm thinking a weekend afternoon over the 2 week Commonwealth Games break, but I can work around this so that everyone can be there. I reckon 5pm is a good time, not too early, not too late, unless people have another idea. Will speak to Jane about getting that front foyer area for the shot so we can fit everyone in. I'm thinking at the very least, 50 people for the pic. Throwing dates out there, how's about Saturday March 18th? Or March 11th. I'm cool to work with ya'll.

I know at least 15 people involved will be in the city on the 11th without even knowing about it yet. That might be a good start. Will talk to the photographer soon and get back to everyone.

I work 6-6 every sat in march except this sat (4th)
so earliest I could make it to Mercat would be 7:30..

How about for people not able to make the scheduled shoot print out a real-size picture of their mug for some one else to hold up..?
