Good luck with it lady. In my experience they don't even read the letters and send you a stock standard response that doesn't even address anything you've raised with them. They're fucking useless. Will be interested to hear how you go and if there really is any semblance of humanity in that fucking department.

GOTD: didn't get the job. pipped by someone with 15 years more experience.

If this is the case, you take it to the ombudsman. They have to provide a response which addresses the problem or complaint, and if they don't, you can take it further.

Sorry to hear about job btw. It doesn't sound like it had anything to do with you though, and at least they gave you good feedback. Sucks when they don't. Keep ya head up!

the reasonable defense is in all aspects of law, and provides for men in wigs to think carefully about what a reasonable person might do...

as they say on the pt defence site linked, they think reasonable steps might be having change, to get a ticket, but the machine was broken, then if journeying, there was no machine available, and then being busted before you could get to a machine at the other end (or not being permitted to)

if the basis for the fine was tested in court i imagine they would have to disprove such defenses beyond a reasonble doubt?? (perhaps) but they would rather grind you down before it gets to that point

i dont think the train running a few minutes early is a great excuse, as it would be reasonable (within plannable, not OTT) to get to the station a few minutes early, enough to buy a ticket
