This has got to be Nintendos big break here!
Any news on whether RARE* games are still in operation?
a new Donkey Kong/goldeneye and I would be sold.
Rare was bought by Microsoft so they can develop games on a proper console.

That doesn't make sense. HALO is about exploding people and aliens and cyborgs with heaps of guns and running them over with cars and making bombs stick to them or running after them if you have a bomb stuck to you.

Thats something we can ALL enjoy. Its non-gender specific. Like re-runs of "Are you being served?". Or volleyball.

Is the performance on par with Sony & the XBOX 360 ... or is this going to be another Gamecube situation ??

either way... would be cool to buy just for the controller!

The system itself is a beefed up Gamecube and won't have nearly as many bells and whistles as the 360 or PS3.

They were forced to remove DVD playback in order to ensure that every Wii and every Wii game sold makes a profit. Smart move on nintendo's part seeings as both MS and Sony will both be losing money per unit they sell.

I reckon that was a great move. I'd say most peeps have a DVD player in some capacity alread, so why shell out more for another one when it aint necessary?

The console is roughly twice as powerful as a GameCube, putting it in horsepower territory beyond Xbox, but well shy of Xbox 360.

I actually like the name Wii now, I wasn't sold at first.
It works well with the wii-mote and the mii avatars... but did they have to name the included game wii sports?? :?

I LOOOOVE Halo.

I love the co-operative play mode, sniping while a friend runs in and slams the covenant with a brute rifle, or playing as an elite and swooshing at stuff with my sword.

And when I am not playing halo, I spend most of my spare time encouraging conflict in some of the world's poorest regions by applying the occasional trade embargo or supplying militia with warheads....

they're not trying to go head to head with xbox360 - those consoles (inc. ps3) are more about convergence and creative a 'media centre' whereas the nintendo console is trying to do what nintendo do well - make good family games for the everyman.

so i just got back from trialling this beast at nintendo HQ

played

- wii sports
- wii play
- zelda twilight princess
- metroid prime 3 corruption
- super mario galaxy
- warioware
- a driving game

nintendo had 7 plasmas set up in a room ... all with different games. Controller was awesome and the games are very addictive. Really liked the tennis adn baseball from Wii Sports and the Super Mario Galaxy game.

The unit was so fun to play ... the 2.5 hours flew by.

I don't doubt them. I'm a Zelda freak, and from what i've seen, it prolly WILL be the best game ever.
Was the control system sweet? Did it take much effort or getting used to?

i really liked the controller .. i played mario for about 30 mins and that really uses the nunchuck system ... and it's very intuitive ... it was very responsive for the tennis and baseball on wii sports and it was great on the driving game ... i liked it!

Sony Corp says it will cut the price of its much-anticipated PlayStation 3 video game console by 20 per cent, heating up the competition in the next-generation gaming war against rivals Microsoft and Nintendo.

The announcement comes just days after Microsoft announced that it would roll out an external high definition DVD player for its Xbox 360 in an effort to match the PlayStation 3, which is due to be released later this year with its own Blu-ray DVD technology.

Sony will cut the price of its basic PlayStation 3 model in Japan to 47,600 yen ($US410), from an originally planned 59,800 yen ($US515).

It's actually been made out of Carlton draught beer coasters from a pub that have been painted and stuck on the wall. Found near Swanston Street, near RMIT university in Melbourne, Australia.
