Plane trees (family Platanaceae), oak (Quercus spp) and elm (Ulmaceae) trees and ryegrass (Lolium spp) are the usual suspects for hayfever.

Australian natives such as the Myrtaceae and Acacia release huge quantities of pollen at this time of year too, but the pollen spores are mostly too large to trigger an immune response.

Yep. Plane trees. Council planted them along my street last year and they have doubled in size. I'm going to have to get my canadian mate who is coming over to fix my window so that it isn't just gaffer-taped closed, cos once those trees get big enough it'll be hell.

The zoology department in Adelaide uni used to have all the windows on one side of the building welded shut cos that side of the building was next to a street lined with plane trees.

Don't know why councils keep on using them. Well, I do... they are cheap, they are hardy, resist air, soil and groundwater pollution and they grow rapidly. But they are also a nightmare for hayfever sufferers. Should plant Metasequoia glyptostroboides (Dawn Redwood). Critically endangered, fast growing, beautiful foliage and a living fossil to boot. They've planted some near the new melbourne uni law bulding.

^^^ Rhinocort AQ FTW...

fuck antihistamines, even if they do work... it's not for long. Steriods pwn.

The countryside around Wangaratta is easily the worst place for hayfever I've ever been.... long time and cronic sufferer, went there... fuck me.. my head felt like it was going to explode, tear-ducts so swollen I could hardly see. Pain.

I think it's the ryegrass that gets me the worst, although Plane trees do it too. There's some at the top of Flagstaff Gardens along Dudley Street that make me sneeze every time I go near them, even driving past them with the windows up.

hai gnat and and mrj and deviant...

im fascinated today by the LED announcements on trains...
have you ever looked real close at em?

i know its simple technology, but the precision with which the LEd changes to create moving letters really is quite astounding....

a while ago i was gonig to buy a huge one of them, and rent them out to parties with my words scanning on em...
the big ones are expensive, and when i was looknig at them they didnt have enough characters for me to warrant doing it...

could still do one day...

It's funny how you are astounded by that, coz the precision and technology in your computer screen is much more full on... and the screen on your mobile and camera for that matter. I guess the LCD screens don't let you "see" how they are working as much.

The chick at the front desk must think I'm retarded.

I organised a 'get well soon' card for someone in the office who is having surgery a few days ago and passed it out. Yesterday I wanted to mail it but I didn't know where it was, so I sent an email out to the office. Someone handed me the card and I gave it to the chick at the front desk to post.

Anyway, this morning she checked her emails and saw my email asking where the card was, so she called me up to tell me that I had given her the card.

funny story....

India has been downloading heaps of divx files of cartoons and disney features etc etc.. much to my annoyance, as they take up 700MB (of HDD and bandwidth) or so and they are crap. One file "snow white and the seven dwarves" was taking a particularly long time to down load. She was asking me every time I got on the computer whether it was finished yet.

anyways... yesterday I get this text message while at work.
india wrote:My snow white movie ended up being a porno :(
BWAHAHAHA, the internet got her back

then this...
india wrote:I couldn't resist i had to see if snow white got cained by the seven dwarves :-/ it was weird

bless her heart

seriously though... a full length feature porn, pretty old.. but pretty full on.
