Building PC
Building PC
As the title explains im looking at building a new pc...Now this comp is going to be specifically to write tunes. There are only a few things im after atm...im looking at spending as close to a grand and a half as possible,2 grand at max.
Atm i know for sure i wanna have 2 monitors,Intel Dual core and a swanky case as loud fans drive me spaz...
Any list of parts and price would be genius.

Seagate 250GB HDD are about $99 now which is pretty good value.
I assume you'll want to go bigger than than.
either way. get 2 drives. run your programs off one and work off the other. Much faster.
that's all i got.

Here's what I gleaned and learned after building mine, which is =
e6750,
2GB DDR2,
P35-DS3P mobo,
Samsung SpinPoint HDDs,
Tuniq Tower HS,
Nexus RealSilent 120mm fans,
Geforce 8500GT w/ dedicated DDR2 (passively cooled version (ie: heatsink instead of fan))
Samsung 205BW LCD
I have never even come close to maxing out this thing and with the fans on their lowest settings a couple of little diagnostic progs tell me that the CPU temps don't ever seem to go over 37-38 degrees unless it's a forty degree day and I've been making tunes with my amps on the whole time.
- Samsung Spinpoint HDDs are quiet
- Antec Solo is a simple, solid and quiet case though you could swap out the case fan for a Nexus (see below) if the fancy takes you.
- Nexus Real Silent fans are good, use them.
- Tuniq Tower heatsink is huge, efficient and fits into the Antec Solo case (I can run my system with basically ALL of the fans switched off because it's so good).. You can also replace it's stock 120mm fan with a Nexus and if you want to replace the Antec case-fan, be sure to install the new one BEFORE installing the Tuniq as you really don't want to be fucking around removing and reinstalling that thing too many times.
-as A1 said above, get a GFX card without a fan... and get one with dedicated memory so that it never "shares" (read: fucks with) your system RAM.
-as for monitors.. I *think* nothing has changed so;
Most of the cheapies come with a 3-7 dead/bright pixel 12month warranty.
I didn't want any of that bollocks and wanted to know I was covered for a while so I spent the extra and got Samsung; Zero Dead/Bright Pixel warranty for 3years and a quality screen.
I decided against a 22" monitor because it's only an arms reach away from me and I wanted crisp detail (ie: smaller pixels); If you're going to have it further away from you then you'd want a larger one.
AFAIK the 22" monitors don't normally have a higher resolution... they fit basically the same amount of stuff onto the screen as a 19-21", they just use bigger pixels. So if you have it close enough to touch then you'll be looking at slightly blocky, pixelated love.
Buy a static electricity wrist-strap and some good HS gloop (Arctic Silver, etc).
ps: to buy a similar set-up to mine would cost you $1200-1400 if you spent the time lovin staticice.com.au and then calling the ubiquitous South-Eastern suburb-based computer shops.
>>This has been another rambling post from.. Me!<<
Good Luck.

sounds pretty good atm...ive got a geforce 6600gt sitting around at home so thats 1 less gfx card.sound card is obviously something i wanna spend some cash on...but something which is confusing me is whats the pros/cons of having internal soundcard or external.

that is the worst part i reckon. getting around the right way lol.
there will be a little arrow on the plug pointing to one of the holes, this is the + so you can get it right that way, just hard to see rly.
you'll know you got it right if it turns on!

i just did to a very similar motherboard. had the same connections down the front. The wire pairs should all have one colour in common, and that is the negative. Prolly white for negative? Also on the plug should be a little arrow, thats positive.
that red pair is your power and the positive is on the left, so you will probably have to turn the plugs upside down to get positive on the right. REset is the dark green one underneath it. Blue is hard drive indicator, not sure about the other one cant remember. All the plugs will end up the same way around.
