Question guys... don't know too much about what you can do with camera's. Need to know for potential work project.

Is it possible to set a number of shots, and then automatically shoot say a photo every 1 second?

You can buy devices that do this, 1 I know of works with Canon...

The TC-80N3
The Canon TC-80N3 is a remote switch with an 80cm/2.6ft. cord and a self-timer, interval timer, long-exposure timer, and exposure-count setting feature. The timer can be set anywhere from 1 sec. to 99 hrs., 59 min., 59 sec. A dial enables you to easily enter the numeric settings with a single thumb. The LCD panel can also be illuminated. And the rear of the Controller has a hole to keep the EOS-3's remote control socket cap.

Compatible with EOS-3, 1V HS/1V, 1D, 1Ds, 1D Mark II, 5D, 10D, 20D, D30, D60 and D2000.

There are other non-branded devices, I'll have to dig up some links though.

bear in mind that the N3 only works with the higher-end cameras. the low-end ones only have a T3, which means you'll have to do something slightly more ghetto.

Know of anything that would work with a lower end one? Something under $2000?

great

I've wanted a digital camera for the longest time.... the 350D is a little too pricey for me as I'm not even sure if I've got the talent, patience or motivation to really get into it properly, so that price is perfect for me.....

more opinions please!!

Depends how much you want to pay? 17-55mm 2.8 IS would be a good all round lens but is about $1k. 50mm 1.4 is a good quality lens for portraits and night photog for $400.

But if youre just starting out then the 50mm 1.8 for $150, you cant go wrong. Its the only lens I use at the moment, while I save for a 70-200 2.8. Just means you have to think about composition rather than rely on zoom.

:scr1pt:

50mm f/1.8 II is a MUST for any Canon owners. Cheap, fast and opens wide up. It'll also teach you the disciplines of moving with your feet!

That should keep you well entertained until you want to splurge on some serious glass. Once you've had a bash with the 50mm, I reckon you'll know whether you want to go ultra-wide or zoom / telephoto for your next investment.

shockingly decent optical quality for the money, too. i've got mine waiting for me (a friend in the uk owed me 60 quid, this cost ... 60 quid), will pick it up next week.

OMG I LOVE MY CANNON EOS 400D!!! :smt060 :smt049 :smt054

A whole new side to life has opened up to me!

Last time I used an SLR was back when fillum was still the go, and I don't know how we ever coped! I love being able to see the immediate result of fiddling with the settings.

Last year I went to Timor-Leste with a point and shoot film camera I came back with about 3 crappy photos and in a bad mood that I hadn't captured anything of my experience. This time I came back with 600 photos - woo! :D

I'm looking for a charger for a Polaroid Spectra System MB LOL retro I know, but will be fun to take some snaps with it. I've searched the web, but nothing...thought I'd ask you cats who may happen to know or know someone who would know, ya know.
Cheers.

welcome back! :D would love to see the result. and yeah, there's something fundamentally satisfying about instant shots (complete with the shutter) that point and shoot just can't match at all, ever. i love dslr.

The Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 is rumoured to be an ace lens. A good replacement for the crappy standard lens that comes with your dslr.
You can pick one up here for $550.

All the reviews of this lens i have read, have been very good.

canon for reals. lenses etc are a fair whack cheaper, and if you ever need anything serviced, it'll be cheaper too. and of course it's all vastly superior.

Ok been trolling through this thread to find a recommedation for a digi camera under $800. I got a Cannon PowerShot A510 a couple of years ago which is an awesome cheap camera but now pretty outdated. I dont wanna go to SLR because I cant be fucked carring the thing around when I travel.

Should I stick with the PowerShot range??...recommendations??
