Fresh off the back of the epic JORIS VOORN + ARIL BRIKHA LIVE show, Soma Corp proudly presents the highly-anticipated return of one of the most talked about performances of 2007 - minimal / techno genius ALEX SMOKE LIVE! Taking over the entire top level of the Brown Alley complex across two rooms, the newly renovated space features brand new flooring, toilets, DJ booth and stained-glass windows amongst other improvements; and alongside Brown Alley's thundering sound system, a monster local lineup, and front-of-house production involving multiple projection and plasma screens and a 6 hour LIVE visual show from VJ Netzair, it promises to be yet another crazy long weekend event from Soma Corp.

ALEX SMOKE
Infusing strongly European-inspired minimal techno and house with melodic Detroit strings, electro, dub, acoustic and even classical elements, Smoke's music is refreshingly original and inspiring. His prolific output possesses a warmth all-too-often lacking in that of his contemporaries, his sound embracing human musicality as much as brittle machine soul. After his highly acclaimed album releases on Soma Records, Incommunicado (2005) and Paradolia (2006), and a string of killer twelve inches on coveted label Vakant from Berlin, Alex has quickly climbed the ranks of the techno elite and is consistently placed in lists alongside the best minimal and techno producers the world over. He also released the mix compilation Sci.Fi.Hi.Fi Vol. 3 (November 2006) on Soma Records, assembling an expansive selection of tracks that perfectly define his influences and style - from unreleased Smoke material to forgotten classics from legendary producers like Basic Channel, Juan Atkins and Robert Hood, to modern electronic pioneers, including Claro Intelecto, Thomas Brinkmann and Troy Pierce. In late 2007 he launched his own label, Hum+Haw, and is steadily building a wealth of quality new productions ranging from abstract minimal techno to experimental glitch and breaks, electronic hip-hop, dub and beyond.

Having remixed the likes of Mylo, Alex Under, Vector Lovers, Steve Reich, Junior Boys, Depeche Mode, Funk D'Void, Slam and Andre Kraml, Alex is in huge demand as a producer, remixer and DJ, even putting together a live mix for the massively popular ‘Essential Mix’ on UK’s BBC Radio One last year. He has already toured the world twice over; playing some of the most highly regarded clubs and Festivals across the UK, Europe, USA, Russia, Japan and beyond. His live sets are the stuff of legend. After a brief appearance at Melbourne’s Red Bull Music Academy in 2006 and a January 2007 Australian / NZ tour with Soma Corp where he was regarded by audiences at sold-out shows in both Melbourne and Sydney as “the best live act of the year”, Soma Corp is proud to again present the full Alex Smoke LIVE experience as part of his 2008 Australian tour. A big welcome back to one of the most brilliant minds in contemporary electronic music.

I am so thrilled to be seeing Alex Smoke again. I haven't been out much lately and this will be such a treat. Every time I listen to him I think 'damn, he's good!' Never disappointing. Can't wait.
