WHO WANTS A GIG?

Post by NakedAge »

I'm after DnB/Breaks/Jungle Dj's. Fair warning, this gig wont be anything magnifficant (I can't even spell the word). It won't make you famous, you won't be infront of 100's of people, its a small little bar thing. Demo's are a MUST! ..

This isn't a professional thing, its just basically for shits and giggles, but you have to be good, thus demos are required. You've gotta be able to beat mix and all that.

E-mail me at [email protected] Because, I was reffered here and chances are I'll forget I registered here because I whore myself out on forums looking for Dj's and generally starting trouble etc. So yeah, e-mail me. I hope to hear from you soon :)

I would agree that it seems Naked Age needs a lesson or two in diplomacy.

He did however go out on a limb and post for the purspose of inviting DJ's to work at a gig, and was upfront about what to expect too.

I don't think we should be chastising people for being honest and offering genuine opportunities to others, an opportunity that some up and comers would (and should) jump at.

Addittionally, if we are going to sit here and accuse Naked Age of trying to be too cool for school then we may just want to look in the mirror.

mrj > i never called him 'too cool for school'
i actually went out of my way to post many times to try and reach some understanding with him, to no avail, if you read the whole thread. and not just me.

im not chastising him for posting here, nor for offering gigs to Djs.

But i do believe in 'honesty and integrity', especially in this 'scene', as a macrocosm of society.

and i think people here have a right to know
1) some of his views to do with the scene
2) that he was banned from ITM very recently for being very derogatory

i understand your devils advocate view, and 'lets all welcome everyone to the boards'
but I draw the line somewhere. sheesh.

TBH. I thought he raised some interesting points about the "underground" in his first couple of posts on ITM.

If you step away from the situation, and don't take it personally - there's some merit to his comments on the "underground" - IMO.

They probably could have been voiced less aggressively, but yeah... just my 2c.

I put "sides" in inverted commas cause I was making a very loose joke about how the other thread had come a shit fight and how this one has the potential to do the same given the language and banter that is emerging. Was not very well executed on my part mate.
Would of been better if I had a real opinion about this at all, which I don't.

For sure.

I find it interesting how underground music becomes increasingly popular and loses its "underground" status and becomes "mainstream".
Often the music remains the same, it's just been given more exposure, and more people are subjected to it, and appreciate it.

Sometimes things "sell out" to reach mainstream status, but not always. Trends come and go, pop culture shifts - as does the "underground".

Such a loose word.

underground as a concept is a misnomer. there is no underground since the existence of the internet IMO.

just loads of different sub-cultures & communities, which are different. Al Quaeda are underground, and other terrorist factions but since Spiral Tribe haven't met many music driven political activists..... at least not any interesting ones. ;)

it usually consists of rich hippy kids rebelling their conservative roots throwing free parties for their hippy mates.

at least in london thats what it was, warehouse rave thing in london is gone now and the ones that do happen are run by funky trendy rich types for their friends and it goes full circle.

I dont know dude I'm too busy getting paid and selling out to the man to have any idea what you're talking about. :)

but I do know why its a misnomer because if anyone knows what it is then its no longer underground.

same with the 'next big thing' paradox which goes along the lines of - if you're saying something is 'the next big thing' then chances are its moment has passed,

man, that itm thread was one of the most painful things I've ever read..... the guy is a goose. arguing for the sake of arguing imo... and being sarcastic and facetious only making himself look like more of dick... I've got no real idea what he was on about for the most part... stupid topic and stupid to even been caring about tbh.

real "underground" cultures surely couldn't give two fucks about any of that.

sorry to those that may have an issue with that, but he's done nothing wrong here, and i think anyone deserves another chance
