Re: bikes
Just ordered my new bike on the weekend: Cannondale CAAD 10 3 2010 Ultegra
I'm just concerned I should have gone full carbon. Just struggling to justify the extra $1k spend on the carbon equivalent: Cannondale SuperSix 3 2010 Ultegra
New bike due early May... do I change my mind? Hmmm....

Re: bikes
surely a few KGs don't mean much when there's a 70KG+ human sitting on it.
Re: bikes
I live in Dandenong. My gf lives in Coburg though, so sometimes I set off on rides the morning after crashing at hers. Maybe we could go do some climbing around Kinglake? I'll be in touch.Direkt wrote:Cool Aroes.

Re: bikes
More to do with carbon fiber absorbing vibrations from the road whilst providing stiffness, than weight, although any savings in weight (more like a couple of hundred grams, than kilos) are a nice by-product.deviant wrote:surely a few KGs don't mean much when there's a 70KG+ human sitting on it.
Aluminium has a bad reputation of directly transferring any road vibrations to your body, via your hands and ass. On long rides this reduction in comfort can greatly effect both your enjoyment and ability to keep riding... apparently.
Still, the CAAD 10 has carbon forks and a carbon seat stem.

Re: bikes
after reading some more reviews, I'm going to stick with the CAAD10 - value for money not quite there in the upgrade

who was keen to get on board for this?
Aroes, Ob, Direkt, Direkt's Dad & My Dad so far - any other takers?
210km leg from Alexandria Gardens - Queenscliff - Sorrento - Alexandra Gardens
There's a ride Melbourne to Adelaide in October which may take precedence with my old man, if not, this is all systems go.

Re: bikes
I want to do it, but I'm scared to try it on a fixie, actually, I've never riden that far on any bike... might try a few smaller rides in the lead up, or hire a touring bike, or both.
Re: bikes
be good to have you on board Dan, before last years the furthest I'd ridden was 50kms - we ended up doing 190km for the day.
Touring bike would be recommended though - Direkt is riding north side a couple of times a week I think - join him for a session and see how you go

You can pay for it, or email the link on the fyx site for a free code
I guess the whole concept is that he organises for an absolute motherload of blue hire bikes to flood ridgway place, creating an awesome photo opportunity. Everyone gets free coffee from liaison for their trouble/leisure, thus bringing about a fun vibe in which people enjoy riding a ridiculously heavy and gaudy looking bike

Re: bikes
Yeah... nah. The hills south of Frankston aren't particularly big, but you will NOT want to do them on a fixie, especially during the second 100km. Trust. Borrow a bike with gears, or get a second hand one.deviant wrote:I want to do it, but I'm scared to try it on a fixie, actually, I've never riden that far on any bike... might try a few smaller rides in the lead up, or hire a touring bike, or both.
