Hells bells that gig was a memorable one that's for sure!
Brooklyn to Brixton was by Freq Nasty though - not Freestylers... Just for the record
True that.. but it is the FREESTYLERS mix that takes the cake!!!

Dunno but they should have kept it up. That album was wicked, and all the remixes they did with that title were sick too..

Whenever I have a question about breakbeat artists, I hit up this really cool website called FunkyJ.com
That dude has all the answers!
The Freestylers disappeared for a while after the collapse of their record label Freskanova. “For a while there it was really great, just a bunch of friends together and we all used to A&R it”, Cantor explains. “We’d been recording for the people who ran it for a long time. But I guess it just ran its course. They lost a lot of money and went bankrupt and ceased to exist.” This explains the absence of the band, and also the rise of a little group called Raw As Fuck. “Just to keep the music out there we decided to put some underground breakbeat out under the name Raw As Fuck. And another year down the line we thought the dust would have settled, and we could go buck to out former name. In a stroke of genius we decided to call our next album Raw As Fuck”, Cantor laughs.

I still don't get it... The label didn't own the name Freestylers, so why couldn't they just keep using the same name?

however, the group is signed to the label... meaning that all music they produce has to be released by said label.... when the label loses money or goes under or whatevs the music would never get released as the exclusivity contract is still binding. So, they form a "new" group with a new name to get around the legal hurdle.

Thanks for that deviant... Hadn't thought about it that way. Though had I thought about it that way I probably would've come to the conclusion that if the label ceases to be then the contract would cease to be. Shows how much I know

yeah, it does (edit: maybe actually not 100% on this. Where's Jenn Tutty when you need her?))... but a label will probably stop realeasing music when under strain, long before the company is wrapped up, put in liquidation or whatevs.

Sorta good and sorta not..
The sound in that room just frickin ricochets around, and unless you are standing right in front of the turntables, there is so much reverb!
Loved technically what Matt and Aston were doing, their mashups and dub sampling were brilliant, but I guess I was wanting just a little more of the ragga tinged breaks that they made their name with.. They are following all the breaks people it seems into atonal cutups of rhythm a la electro..
Just made me realise;
1) Roxanne Parlour= great sound
2) Drum n bass
3) Drum n bass.
Still, god damn they are great at what they do.. Great technicians.
Anyone else thinks Aston is looking a little like Chico Marx these days?
