yeah he lived on it for 5 years!Feigan wrote:Mellogs - your dad had a boat?
My dad also has a boat - but it has no pie maker
what sort of boat does your dad have?
it was a 60 ft offshore cruiser
my sister an I had our own bedrooms!!
It was 3 bathrooms, a laundry with miele washer and dryer, decked out kitchen and bose surround sound, Internet, foxtel, wine cellar storage.. it was awesome!
He even bought my sister and I a twin-outboard 9ft zodiac cause we used to get bored. Except he moved to Raymond Island about 4 years ago so he could cruise to our holiday houses in Pambula Beach and Merrimbula.. havent seen him since
...and basically that's the situation

I have been in some fast cars and i've ridden a bike at 280+ Km/h but i tell you never again in a boat like this.Mellogs wrote:yeah, he went through the Bertram stage and had a 25, 30 and 48.. they were cool cause they were fast!Feigan wrote:my dad's Ross 780 pales in comparison

Something else to add to the list for must-have warm Winter goodies (I'm past the risotto, onto dessert!)
Apple Turnovers (can be peach, apricot, blueberry ... whatever you want, cooking times can change but)
What you need:
-----------------------
Apples! - whatever sort you want.
Filo Pastry! - depends on how many you want to make. one slice will usually make 2 big ones, 4 small ones.
Cinnamon! - fresh is best, otherwise whatever! But a must have ...
Sugar! - caster is best, use what you want though ...
(preheat oven to around 200 - 220°C)
1) Cut apples up into pieces (small cubes is best).
2) Get pastry out, let it thaw a little ... only touch it with moist hands! Otherwise it'll dry out and crack and ... that's bad.
3) Put a pile of apple (flattened out) on one side of the slice of pasty.
4) Garnish apple with sugar, cinnamon (or any other topping you'd like, custard does work here!)
5) Fold other side of pastry over the apple and press pastry together with fingers. Once thawed out a bit, it should easily sorta mush together like rubbery playdoe).
6) Slice/score top to allow heat through and extra crispiness.
7) Garnish with sugar and cinnamon.
8 ) Into oven for about 10 - 15 minutes (or until you reckon they're nice and crispy)
9) Serve hot with ice-cream (since it's winter, you can serve with hot custard )
voila!

The "Lounge" parmas also rate highly with myself and McFly.
Massive Breest of chicken and instead of bread crumbing it, they smash up CC's chips and crumb it with that. Has a nice salsa sort of Sauce layered with a massive fuckoff bit of ham and parma cheese all over it.
Then their chips...Oh gosh and sald is also lush.
Recommended highly by Myself, Fikuss, Mcfly and the Kammonator.
Anyone want my special Brockoli and Ham and Mushroom with cream sauce recipe?

there was a good review in the age the other day of melb's burger joints: http://theage.com.au/articles/2005/06/1 ... 53113.html
ladro is great!
some of the best pizza's around.
i have actually made a special trip there (to collingwood from windsor) a few times just for those pizzas.
i had high hopes for mr wolf on the gourmet pizza front... karen martini who was up until that point head chef at icebergs in sydney (one of the best restaurants in australia i reckon) started it up. i went there in the first couple of weeks after it opened and it was absolutely shiteful. crap pizza bases, boring topings, way overpriced, rude service... don't bother i say...
ok. dinner tonight: pumpkin rissotto followed by apple turnovers

New burger place on Errol St, Nth Melb called burger republic is pretty much the same as urban burger for those closer to nth melb.
Finally checked Piazza 51 on Sydney Rd and the pizzas are top notch. Comparable with i Carusi and Ladro, so I really don't need to say anything else.
Best & Cheapest Indian (brunswick area); Kake De Hati. In fact, that strip of Lygon also has awesome Thai (Thai Nee).
Delicious, home made Italian food at wicked prices - Railway Hotel, Nth Fitzroy.

the izakaya restaurant on lonsdale street near the corner of russell..awesome for jap-style pub food. great to go get rowdy and eat heaps for reasonable prices.
i do heaps of cooking - heres a simple recipe for something delicious:
get some large mushrooms - about 4 per person. Chop em up into pieces. Heat up a pan, get some olive oil going, then whack in the mushies. cook them for a couple minutes until they are looking juicy, then stick in a cloves worth of crushed garlic, 2 small hot red chillies and plenty of salt. cook for another 5 minutes or so then chuck in some lemon juice and more salt to taste.
meanwhile have some spaghetti going in a pot - empty the water out, put the spag back in the pot, whack in some parmesan and the mushrooms, stir it around, and voila!

That's some website souk have got. Menu looks great too.
I'd also recommend Pireaus Blues on Brunswick St, Fitzroy. My dad and his mates took me there for my birthday last year and we ordered the banquet: broad beans, saganaki, calamari, goat, swordfish, lemon lamb, chicken with okra. There may have been a salad in there at some point, but I'm not sure. Then came dessert: halva ice cream.
Otherwise, one main from the Napier Hotel will easily feed two, if not three people.

I'm very tempted to try Burger Republic now, even though I can't eat bread (and shouldn't be spending too much at the moment).quiet roar wrote:New burger place on Errol St, Nth Melb called burger republic is pretty much the same as urban burger for those closer to nth melb.
as i said i wasn't impressed with urban burger windsor when i went there a couple of days ago... i'm gonna give them a couple of weeks to get into the swing of things (as they just opened) and then try them again.
they've gotta step up the pace a little to even compare to port melbourne though
what did you guys have?

those mushies sound unreal sneaky hands.
bRb: still hard to beat a Tolarno's burger.
speaking of Tolarno's and mushrooms, they make some wicked pan fried mushies.
champagne mushrooms (little ones) ... dip in beaten egg, dip in flour, roll in bread crumbs. pan fry (or deep fry, but not too long, only until golden brown).
serve with dijonaise. yum snack food.

forgot to mention that I rate "the taxi place" (spencer st.) chicken burgers better than urban or republic. They use a thigh fillet rather than the breast, which I prefer - cheaper too, which I also prefer.
Unfortunately none of them, use fresh (baked that day) bread
None of them beat my home made burgers though
