It seems so often these days we get surrounded by images of human suffering and we are unable to do anything but send our well wishes and donate what we can and wonder how the world will be the same again.
On Tuesday 22 February 2011 Christchurch, New Zealand suffered a devastating earthquake causing massive damage and loss of life. The statistics are not yet available, but it is clear that this is day that New Zealand will never forget. The wider online community as well is struggling to come to grips with the severity of this event and many are left looking for a way that they can be of some support.
As a reaction to the Christchurch Earthquake, a group of 63 Artists from around the world have donated their music to a charity album that is hosted up on christchurchquakerelief.bandcamp.com. This Album is available for download after donating money to the project. All the proceeds will be divided between the New Zealand Red Cross 2011 Earthquake Appeal and the Prime Ministers' Christchurch Earthquake Appeal. The project is designed to encourage people to donate and to show the people of Christchurch that they’re tragedy has affected people of all cultural types worldwide and they are prepared to do whatever they can to help them in their time of need.
Its a way for the people of Christchurch to know that there are those of us worldwide that wish we could help and we are doing what we can to make a difference, and that even thou they are going through tough times they shouldn't feel as if they are forgotten or alone.
We are totally thankful for the efforts of the artists and the fans who are giving their support to this cause. We have tried to make the album accessible for everyone to contribute. On sites like iTunes songs sell for $1.69 but we wanted everyone to be able to feel like part of this and contribute whatever they can. Pay what ever you can because it all adds up.
There is more you can do than just donate as well. We have a Facebook Event page set up you can invite your friends too and there is also a Fan page to "like" So spread the word, tell your friends, write to your local paper about the project, send a few emails. There is a lot that can be done whilst sitting at your computer listening to the compilation for the first time!
