Has anyone had any luck training a dog to poo in one area? We have a 1/4 acre section and Molly our choc lab, poos everywhere. Takes forever to hunt the shit out. Only place she doesn't poo is the garden.

OMG!!! BEST DOGS IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have 2 back in Perth, never felt so close to a pet, amazing companion, fun, cuddles, smart, cuddles, so fukn cute, cuddles.... best dogs. ADD Boy has one as well, his is a Ruby, i have 2 Blenheims, thats the colour you posted. Shepard has a couple as well, he also knows a breader, he comes on here now and again, PM him if you want to know more. When I was going to buy a house I was soooo loking forward to my own Cav (King Charles Cavalier) and contacted his breader friend, she was lovely and you can go and see all the pups and make a easy (or hard cos too many to choose from) decision.

Great choice Ely

I've got a training book J, i'll try and look tonight and post any tips.

Need a chapter on 'how to stop my dog climbing a fence' but I dont think its in there  We have to set up a video camera and film her to see what the hell is going on! crazy lil dog. :angel13:

ely - yoshi is half king charles and half beagle. beaglier. and the best dog breed in the world imho.
has the sweetness and cuteness of the king charles, but not the lapdogness, and the gusto and bravery of the beagle, but not the pig headed nose drivenness. and hes gonna be cute forever!

jgal - i dont know how, but yoshi poos by the compost bin, he just does it. should i ask him?

lapdogness is BEST!!! they still play a LOT but will cuddle up on your lap at any given chance... love it

yes but they can also have a pathetic needy edge.

sometimes i say i should have called yoshi needy.

especially when he now begs on hindlegs for attention when hes not gettin any!

They are all so cute beagliers, cavaliers - all of them. Yep, methinks a doggie is definitely on the cards :)

I am guessing housetraining them can be a bit of a challenge, but am sure there are tried and tested methods? Probably best to make sure new digs be having tiles or hardwood floors however and pet friendly landlord!
quick wrote:ADD Boy has one as well, his is a Ruby, i have 2 Blenheims, thats the colour you posted.
so Blenheim is like that caramel and white pup and ruby is more russett coloured and white then?

I will post up pics of all...

Blenheim

Ruby

Tri-Colour

Black & Tan

The Blenheim are most common and then tri-colour...

Another great mix of these pups is the Pugalier... half pug, half cav...

but I would always choose original... pure Cav is best!

oh and my mum house trained our 2 real easy, no puppy school at all, but she has had dogs before, but she never really trained them, she just loved these pups so much that she made a great effort and read books, searched online and did it all her self... good pups they are now too

awwww morrie poos :smt007

lol

It's difficult. It's easier to get them to not poo somewhere than to poo somewhere specifically. If there is anywhere you particularly don't want her to poo then put some bedding, a waterbowl or food bowl there for a while - they instinctively wont poo where they sleep, drink or rest.

Otherwise leave some poo (not mountains of it though) in a spot you want her to go. You can also bring her inside for an extended period until she really needs to go to the loo, and then walk her out on a leash and wait in the poo zone until she goes. Do that enough times and she might start doing it on her own accord.

Nice Flippo, im gunna try that too. Thanks. :smt003

So brb goes out the front today (dogs are fenced out the back only, front isnt fenced at all) and my two lil ones come trotting around the corner. So he goes back around, and god love em, they show you where they get out. Max, maybe 30cm in height, small dog, literally jumps the fence in one go. The fence has gotta be a metre and a half high. The other one, tiny dog, then does the same thing, but only makes it 3/4 of the way, then climbs the rest of the way up the fence.

What cheeky lil champions!! To think something so small can jump so high.

Naughty, but you cant help but laugh and love the naughtyness. They get out, have a run around, check shit out, then go back unnoticed. stealth ninja puppies ftw!

Totally. Id hate to think. All the properties around our place arnt totally fenced in. My neighbor for example, we wonder around on his land all the time, but who cares when everyone has heaps of it. Im sure there going visiting around the place, saying hello to the horses and the cows. They could be up to god knows what!!! so entertaining.

Yeah like that!! ^^^ how fucking cute is that doggy.
Her nails get clipped tomorrow, so we'll see if she can still do it! Oh its gold. Keeps me so on my toes.

Same here, been going to come and see you for as long as youve been there!! ooops, ha.

Yeah, they totally are. Theyve started doing this thing with their paws, when you pat them, they get their two front paws around your arm, omg, wrap themselves around you like a cuddle. So awesome :smt007

My boy Jamie is a bit disorientated this morning. He's not exactly a pup, he's 13. Has happened maybe 4 times a year or so for last 3-4 years, where for a few days he just doesn't want to eat, doesn't really seem to be completely familiar with were he is, kinda forgets how to do basic things like drink, walk up steps, get in and out of his kennel. He has pretty bad epilepsy so is on a huge dose of anti-convulsants which kinda makes him seem permanently stoned. Its really annoying because everytime I've taken him to the vet with it they just scratch their heads. At first they thought it was a virus, but now that its happened repeatedly thats not likely. I think he either gets bitten by red-backs or something, eats/drinks something he's not supposed to (I had a suspicion he was eating mushrooms for a bit), is having strokes or something like that, or has some kind of doggy Alzheimer's.

Back before his epilepsy was under control he used to kinda get a bit like this after a fit. For a few hours afterwards he would walk around up the back, like he was trying to get out, and he'd not recognize you at all and would bark and howl at you if you came near him. Then he'd slowly get less upset but for a couple of days he would be a little bit backwards. I wonder if he can still occasionally have those symptoms of epilepsy without actually having seizures?

Took dogs for a walk though the bush on the weekend. Get home, max covered in burs, whatever, brush em out, BUT THEN, THEN brb see's about 5 ticks on his eye lids!!!!! omg, poor poor thing. Gets em off immediately, but oh man, i almost spewed when he told me. Niggling away trying to latch on his eyes. GROSS rotten little critters they are.

no more bush walks, dirt roads from now i think.

ew sammy, GROSS!

had some dramas on our river walk this weekend too, massively swollen river, did not think, threw stick in, then suddenly watched my baby being carried downstream FAST.
he freaked out but we eventually got him back to shore. quite a few metres downstream heh.

then later, saw him all hound-like alert in the bushes, nose to nose with a HUGE lizard. both ready to pounce but nobody did thank fuck.

im scared of snakes down there too, bush walks can be dangerous!

was it a water dragon? they can get fucking huge sometimes, bout 4 foot i think

if yoshi got into a scrap with a decent size one it'd prob fuck him up if he didn't get to it first.....mate of mine has a couple of em, his are quite small but can get pretty vicious

very big and sharp claws
