btw in this situation "passed under urgency" means a bill is passed without referral to a select committee for review.

So it's pushing something through without any review, just on strength of votes.

Um except creative commons is just a license (ie a legal document) that takes advantage of existing copyright laws to give people the right to put works in the public domain and was created by activists who are opposed to copyright (such as Lawrence Lessig) so is actually the complete opposite of "informed by the industries it serves".

In addition media control of copyright laws has resulted in acts such as the "Mickey Mouse Protection Act" (because of extensive lobbying by Disney) which extended copyright terms by twenty years. This by a company that made a lot of their early money from stories in the public domain.

There may always be some piracy - there will always be people who can get around these laws, which is another reason they are badly designed, but I think services like itunes store and PSN network are examples of how a well implemented affordable service can actually be effective (ie they are making a killing).

That's it for me, im out.

they need to learn that if you want to live vicariously through your child and have them be an ornament unto your own insatiable ego then you should force them into a sport, ideally one that you always wished you were good at. Thats how we do it in Australia.

oh fuck that is similar to what happened here
it completely fucks everything...
you have to pay for EVERY SINGLE TRIP...
how fucked is that?
i used to get daily tickets because it was slightly cheaper than two one way tickets...
lucky i normally only go to a place and back, all these poor bastards that need to travel a few times get massively screwed now :(

well, some may say this is fairer or some shit, but i get on a bus at the first stop (not sure if your system works on all public transport), go to the end, and nobody has got on... seriously the only person other than the bus driver on the bus the entire way...
some busses aren't like that, they are just completely empty... what kind of bullshit world is this?

I seen that thing about metcard today also.

For people who use it a bit it's fine, I have a myki I don't use public transport daily but I use it often enough that I prefer to have a myki to know I've always got a ticket, I also don't carry cash.

My partner however might catch public transport once a month if he's lucky so buying a $10 card and then also having to put money onto it for him to use once a month seems pointless.
