Four Tet @ The Salon(Spanish Club)- Jan 20th...59 jOHNSTON ST fITZrOY.
Inspired by the likes of Alice Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders, Aphex Twin, Can, Faust, New York band Battles, and an obscenely large & obscure record collection UK laptop artist Four Tet nee Kieran Hebden is an artist with a mission.
"I think the ultimate achievement in music is when you manage to change people's perception of what's possible while, at the same time, producing something that connects with them instantly," he says. "Windowlicker by the Aphex Twin and Get Ur Freak On by Missy Elliott are not like anything ever done before, but everyone who hears them understands them straight away.
Four Tet, himself it could be said, changed music with the release of his third album 'Rounds' in 2003. A beguiling mix of ethnic-electro rhythms, hip-hop production techniques and lush samples, all arranged with a neo-classical beauty, meant Rounds was the best received electronic album of 2003 chalking up 'Album of the Year' nominations in NME, Uncut, The Times, Jockey Slut, Q, X-Ray, FHM, Sleaze Nation, and a (criminal) near-miss for a Mercury Music Prize nomination despite being tipped by the media to actually win the Prize. The upshot of all this saw Four Tet become a man in demand and he toured as support to Radiohead, performed at Europe's biggest Arts Festival - the Venice Bienale, recorded a John Peel session, remixed a slew of artists including Radiohead, Bloc Party, SIA, Beth Orton, Badly Drawn Boy & Doves, toured Australia on a double bill with Canadian artist Manitoba and managed to record and release 'Everything Ecstatic' - the acclaimed follow up to Rounds. Released locally in June 2005 'Everything Ecstatic' is yet another Four Tet album high on critical reward and audience amazement.

it was great shit hey! he was well and truely twiddling those dials.
bad venue tho. too packed. shit sound too much plaster falling from the roof into our drinks.
i havent been to a gig where i had to stand amongst all these trippers in teh stinking hot since my last Blood Duster gig.
went out for a breather and came back in just in time to hear a 15 min version of She Moves She live and then it was over.
