I'm going to start impletmenting some acoustics into it as soon as I can afford an interface, some real precusion and guitar and maybe some woodwind. I also want to see if some of all the old semi-improv worldy hippyish instrumental acoustic guitar shit I made up whist smoking weed in my late teens can scrub up nice with some production thrown in the mix.
Sounds cool! I've actually been trying to bring in some live percussion too. I've got a decent Meinl conga & bongo set... gotta experiment with it more.
I'm currently working on a track which is all done, apart from needing a 'lead' instrument. Maybe I should try doing some crazy percussion stuff.
My original idea was adding some xylophone, but I don't have any good xylo samples.
Yeah, my last couple of tunes were somewhere around the 90 bpm mark. Working on some more at the moment under the name Grievous. My preference seems to be crashy DJ Shadow drums and Boards of Canada-esque synths (man, if only I could get them sounding like theirs).
Haven't got any clips unfortunately, but my tune is the first track on Plankton's Insomnia album, which is going for $14 on www.feralmedia.com.au
You can see by the time of my post why we chose the song's title.
it's not downbeat though is it, dunno why I was thinkin it was this morning. hehe. Needs eq work, and Ive got this cool watery effect and modulation on the bass but you cant hear it very well in the mix. Needs some eq work and all that shit that I don't know how to do. Any advice much appreciated.
hey there
I haven't got off my arse as far as production goes yet....
but since we're on the topic of downbeat
OTT
makes "ambient psy" , not like tipper or anything, it's mellow and lush as fook!
Last years Earthcore mainstage was closed with OTT playing "Smoked Glass and Chrome" and I'm not ashamed to say, I cried. I was high on acid, yeah, but I cried nonetheless.

Liking the vibe of it man, nice bass. Only suggestion is perhaps the kick has too much snap in it, it leaps out a bit of the mix. Maybe it needs a slower attack and less on the treble-end? A more hip-hoppy kind of kick, something like DJ Shadow would use... just a suggestion. Also could use some "salad dressing" as I like to call it... some background effects, maybe a couple of samples or effects that loop + echo out with some EQ or something like that... but that's really just a creative decision, you're the composer
a hiphop beat. synths have a kind of 80's new wave/new romantic flavour to them. After making it, I heard an evol intent track (I think) with the same vocal sample, heh. Funny how samples can be used in such different tracks.
now, just need the motivation to have a crack at putting some words to this, heh.
