The BF reckoned the steak he had at the Kent on Sunday night was better than the Squires one. The Kent one came with a merlot jus, mashed pots with skordalia and something else. Best bit about it was the charred outside and flavour he reckoned.

It's called Camy Shanghai Dumpling House. I don't rate it either. Yukky dumplings compared to what I ate in China & Hong Kong.

I might have to seek out that other place people have recommended though. I do enjoy a drinking session at Cookie followed by some dumplings.

My roast duck risotto at the Kent on Sunday was very disappointing :( but the calamari with rocket salad entree was a knockout!! :D

I've still to try their pizza's but we've had a few good meals there over the years. Their side dishes are always excellent. :)

buenas system! i'll take some photos of the food for you. :) the prawns were to die for; the only seafood I normally get at home is salmon (smoked is fine in small doses, but normal salmon? ugh), smoked trout (okay, fair enough, but expensive), and herring (kill me now). chorizo was the biggity bomb also. mmm.

i had a nasty discovery after eating my laksa the other night.

i've been vegetarian all my life and have always been very careful when eating out to specify no fish sauce, oyster sauce, shrimp paste etc.

and when i buy jars of pastes etc i always check the ingredients too.

however after eating my laksa the other night i started to get a really sore throat like when you get the start of a cold, then it got worse and my breathing went really shallow and my eyes were really hurting, and then my skin went blotchy :? :(

my theory is that the jar of laksa paste i used had shrimp paste in it even though it wasn't listed on the ingredients...

AND that i must be allergic to shellfish :? my mum and aunt and one cousin are all allergic so it makes sense. i've just never known about it as i've always been vegetarian. even more reason now to check the labels!

hmmmmm

Went to Lola in St K for tapas Sat night. It was lovely. Good service and dark but warm ambience. Biggest of props to their chorizo and mushroom with chilli :homerdrool:

Also visited Crabapple Bakery in the Prahran Markets. Divine special little place for the girls- incredible cupcakes and tea served in silver. Couldn't spend 10 bucks better on a Saturday girlie mission

I went to Pint on Punt for $10 steaks tonight. The first steak was so good I ordered another! So yes, I got through 2 whole steaks with trimmings. And 4 pints. The second steak was a different cut, not as good as the first, but still quite acceptable.

Going to bed to digest this massive amount of food...

yeah - pelican is awesome too. i always wind up spending a ridiculous amount of money there though... i think it's because they make brilliant bloody marys too ;)

i make my own red / green curry pastes and massaman but i've never made a laksa paste from scratch before. i'll have to give it a go :D

i made a great dessert last night:
vanilla pancakes with white chocolate chips, served with homemade nougat icecream and raspberry coulis. it was REALLY damn good. joe got back from usa last night so i had to make a special welcome home meal!!

tonight i'm making another one of his favourites, being the pommy git that he is: bangers and mash :D 8)

Black Ruby on Rathdowne gets a thumbs up for lovely scrambled eggs, mushies, baked beans, spinach and coffee on a soggy, busy Sunday AM.

hm, haven't tried with chives yet. i usually just go the filth version of lots of butter and oil, and serving with similarly-treated carrots. so good, but wildly, wildly unhealthy.
Ag3nT[]0raNg3 wrote:im making chicken, bacon and mushroom lasanga tonight.
dopest. i had mushrooms in mine too. will have to try that; mum always did a mexican-style chicken one, but I've never done the chicken myself.

chicken and bacon are definitely two great tastes that taste great together.

while we're on it:
cos lettuce
fried bacon (not crispy; stfu quick, soft is the way of the future)
diced avocado, soaked in either lemon or lime juice
shaved parmesan
croutons if it would make you happy
and the kicker:
paul newman's caesar dressing. the oily stuff, not creamy.

ZOMG SO GOOD.
